It's now just one victory from their opening five Premier Academy League matches for Newcastle's U18 side, who suffered their heaviest defeat for over a decade at Little Benton on Saturday.

Tormentor-in-chief for the Red Devils was James Wilson, with the England schoolboy international striker registering a five goal salvo that included a 17 minute treble.

16 year-old Wilson put the visitors ahead on 17 minutes but that brought a response from the black and whites, with Jonathyn Quinn forcing a save from Pierluigi Gollini before heading against the crossbar moments later.

From that point however the match ceased to be a contest, with Wilson walking the ball into an empty net just after the half hour and then shooting easily past Freddie Woodman on 33 minutes to make it 0-3.

Before the restart the Magpies replaced the ailing Steven Logan but within two minutes Wilson had his fourth and Manchester United's fifth, with a rerun of the second.

In added time at the end of the first half, midfielder Jack Rudge then powered home a free kick from distance to leave Dave Watson's lads five behind at half time.

Esteban Cardona-Lopez then reduced the arrears with a 49th minute header from Liam Smith's left wing centre, but Wilson then made it 1-6 just after the hour mark, yet again finding himself unmarked in the toon area with all the time in world to steady himself and fire home.

With 17 minutes left, substitute Kenji Gorre beat Woodman with a right footed effort for 1-7.

However there was to be no further scoring in the game, meaning that Newcastle equalled the worst loss of their time in the Premier Academy setup, having suffered 1-7 home defeats at the hands of Barnsley in November 1999 and then the smoggies exactly twelve months later.

Seems like Man Utd have a gem in this young Wilson.

The Ronnie puts articles about the binge drinking in the Bigg Market on a regular basis, wouldn't have been worth putting an article up here about it.

Was thinking of you a little while ago Obi, was going to do a joke article about a spiv selling tickets at the Reading game. Might make a little alteration and still put it up as it's quite quiet.

 

Still struggling to get hold of tickets. May even have to consider sitting in the Reading end!!!
