It's all a bit tense over on the 'Chanting on Tuesday' thread. Think we all need to chill a bit.

With City playing tomorrow, this is like a Friday night, so I'm off for a walk to the chippy. There I said it.

I hope that by the time I get back, this thread is full of fun fish and chip debate. The usual fish puns are inevitable, but on this board I've come to expect more than just that. Chazz - I want your full views on how the man serving at a chippy should behave and a comprehensive list of what is acceptable to order as an alternative to peas. Also NFU and Party if you're on, I'd appreciate your inputs.

Just don't ask for beans at Cave Street chippy, Chazz' mate( miserable twat) shouts at you.

He's even known as NO BEANS at work.

Please tell me you know I've changed user name by the way.

I know a lot of people don't rate them but I like a bag of Carver's chips before 2 or 3 Old Peculiers in Ye Olde White Harte.

Oh ffs ISTPLT. I was just about to make myself a relatively healthy and nutritious spicy sausage and rice stew thing for me tea. Now you've twisted my arm and it's chippy for me too.

He should have his back to you nigh on permanently. Any conversation should be no more than a grunt or look over his shoulder. The skate joke will be met with a deathly look in the mirror above the fryer.

Have you got any Skate left Carl?
    Nods head.
Well you shouldnt have ordered so many.......budum tush.

There is no alternative to peas. Haddock chips mushy peas patty and some scraps is it. FACT. Beans my arse....

The only thing moist that should be even close to fish and chips is Sarson's malt vinegar.

You'll always be NFU to me.

I actually went to Smithy's across the road from there. I used to live right near there (student house I hasten to add, before you get all high and mighty about the West Hull Villages!) but never gave Cave St. a try. Sorry Chazz! You definitely wouldn't like it in there, very friendly and beans are served without question. I've moved a bit further up the road now so it was a bit of a trek but I'm home and safe now so everyone can stop worrying.

I stuck to tradition with the good old fish, chips, peas combo but I have no idea what fish it actually is. I'm going to eat it next. Will update on taste and overall experience shortly.

EDIT: Charlie's just reminded me, salt and vinegar are on there of course.

The young lass( you know the one) is delightful.

A real nice lass, you're mate Carl is ****ing hard work though.

I honestly think one day when I ask for beans( I ask every time in full knowledge he doesn't do them- it's the little victories) he's going to pull me across the counter and stick my head in one of his fryers.
Either that or he'll throw an unopened can of Heinz baked beans into my face from three yards at full pelt , rendering me unconscious.

It's like I've asked him for sausage, chips and a quick rim job.

The disgust on his face is a sight to behold, it's pure hatred.

Next time you're in ask him for beans, I dare you.

I like breaking stereotypes. Given the choice it would be a brattie, chips, mayo and curry sauce for me, but as we're talking about fish n chips from the UK, that's what I go for.

What's up with cod? It's not actually made out of the heads of our southern neighbours...
