I really hope we can win today, I know Port Vale will not sit back, they will get back into it but we can do this, we can do this.
Exeter have conceded a second, Southend have come back to help us, 6 points clear never expected that to happen.
Yes Exeter lose Southend 2-1 Exeter Rotherham drew 0-0 against Barnet Fleetwood drew 0-0 this is brilliant I want to ask does anyone know the last time we kept 3 clean sheets in a row sounds strange saying defensively strong Gills, that is normally our problem, the attack is not bad either. Who is the last keeper to have that record?
I think Hoadie, that the last time we kept 3 clean sheets must have been under Pulis when we were in this division, and the keeper must have been BFJ. I don't know that for sure, but it wouldn't have been since.
Great win today, just going from strength to strength, and based on a solid defence containing two full backs most of us would have shipped out in the summer, as for the last time we kept 3 succesive clean sheets - I think it was in Stimsons promotion season and we did it three times in Nov and again Feb/March and in April too on the last 2 we kept 4 in a row so that would have been Simon Royce in goal.
Well I hope you are extremely happy - I am ! Welcome aboard WestNottsGill - I do hope that you're not just a glory hunter ! This result was no fluke -Gills took their chances well ( cracking goal by Whelpdale ) - We didn't need to do much after that. Admittedly we defended for most of the 2nd half - but it wasn't like v Southend , instead the defence was comfortably in control and very solid. Unlike last season we do not look as if we will concede too many this year. If we play every game like today we will win the league.
Actually it was in the following season ( 2009/10) - when we got relegated despite a trio of clean sheets. 29 Aug v Walsall (A) 0-0 5 Sep v Exeter (H) 3-0 12 Sep v Millwall (H) 2-0
I tell you one thing the player of the month competition will be interesting I would not know who to choose would it be Nelson, Fish, Barrett, Davies, Martin, Lee, Payne, Allen, Whelpdale, Burton or Kedwell I think there is something to say for them all. I am so happy Whelpdale is coming back to his best he just seems to be a slow starter with him at his best we can go places.
It was my first game of the season today and despite hearing the improvements under Allen I wasn't quite ready for how different the team was compaired to the team we were under Hess. Last season at Vale we were one up at half time but fell apart in the second half. Today the players were immense from the kick off, we dominated the first 20 minutes and were rewarded with the goals we deserve. Findley looked too good for this division, not only was he quick, he had two good feet and the vision to create chance, a real coup for thr club even if he does only stay a month. As expected Vale came back at us towards the end on the first half and started very strongly in the second, but we looked strong and organised and limited Vale to a few long range shots. It was that sort of pressure which we crumbled under last season but under Allen we seem far more able to cope. Even when the subs came on they slooted straight into position and the team didn't suffer any disjointedness. Vale looked a very average side, but they didn't have a chance to string two passes together without at least one red shirt putting them under pressure and closing down. I can't think of a player who had a poor game, Flanagan wasn't outstanding but he was effective and you can't complain when your defenders keep a clean sheet. The midfield looked solid, Montrose and Jackman looked sharp despite limited first team action. Whelpdale ran himself into the ground today and just edges Burton for my man of the match. Burton, for me was outstanding, not only does his work rate defy his 37 years on this earth, but he knew when to flick on and when to hold the ball up and his movement off both Keds and Findley was first class. I can't recall having such an intelligent striker at the club since the likes of Steve Butler and 'Saabs
Things are ticking along nicely regards everything gillingam fc !!! Nice to hear your take on things BSG, where is your view and ratings always ?s
