Lawro resumes nornal service with a 2-1 defeat, but guest Mo Farah has a 0-2 away win - I cheered him for 2 Golds, so a goal for each in return seems a fair exchange. C O Y W
I've had the feeling so far this season that Hugo desperately needed that first goal to build his confidence. Time to prove me right, Hugo! (...fingers crossed...)
Another from Duff, how good has he been yet again. Also note how Ruiz got bombarded, yet stayed on his feet and made the pass. Improvement.
Bit of a squeaky-bummed finish, disappointing to concede a goal but I'll take a win. A good performance overall. Ruiz looked strong when he came on, Sidders and Baird did well too.
Well done MJ and the Boys for our first win on the road! 9 points from 5 games, with no draws. Look forward to seeing the reports.
sshh say it quietly, at least we win or lose, which is better than doing a sunderland unbeaten, but drawing all games, like us and villa usually do
Despite the squeaky last few minutes a comfortable win really. Arguably the game should have been finished by half time and while we didn't sit back as we often did last year away from home, we were at times too casual. Some fine performances; Schwarzer with excellent saves and unlucky not to come away with a clean sheet; Riether was solid and again good in attack; Hugo obviously with his goal and impressed how he worked back in the last 20 minutes when he went left - although before that some of his decisions were poor and lost the ball unneccessarily; Bryan clearly needs more game time but did okay in his (slightly deep) central role. However my MOTM - please log in to view this image At the end of the day an away win and isn't it pleasant to be top goal scorers and 4th in the league. The most amazing stat of the day must be that Aaron Hughes got booked (a bit harshly in my view). When was the last time that happened ???
Good solid win today. Pleased for Hugo to get the first goal, the lad looked like he needed one and a nice touch refusing to celebrate. Class cross from Berbie for the first goal too, just a shame most of the commentators I heard on the game now consider us a one man team. Ergh. Thought Kaca was disappointing today and needed to be taken off for Ruiz, who did FANTASTICALLY well to hold off four players in the box and square the ball to Duff. The man has been hitting the weights. Could he be our new Dembele? Side note, Ruiz's hair today was back its flowing best. Looked a bit greasy last time he played.
Here are Jol's post-match comments (I think he's quite happy) - http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2012/september/22/jolwiganreaction And his favourite No. 10s are as well - please log in to view this image PS think he's had it cut and blow dry, Bandit
Bryan please - Berbs and Bryan, the Bio Bs. Here is the match highlight - http://www.101greatgoals.com/gvideos/referee-lee-probert-is-the-meat-in-watson-sidwell-sandwich-jokingly-shows-red-card/
Perhaps this "away fixture" curse is on its way out the door. I guess Jol figured that if he swapped out enough of the old boys who were used to taking it easy while on the road, the team might get rid of that nasty habit. I haven't seen the game yet on Match Choice, but I'm sure looking forward to it.
Great result, wasn't it? And sounds like a good performance too (I haven't watched the game yet). Re the away curse - when did we last win away this early in a season.....? Things are looking good!
A good day out with the win. Was surprised to see the stats for the game with Wigan given 63% possession and more shots on goal than us, apart from about 3 times I didn't think they'd worried us much until the last minute goal had me hoping we didn't throw it away. I'd give Wigan the first 10 minutes of each half, but after that I thought we controlled the match. Again Sidwell and Baird did well, but Sidwell has got to watch himself, he gets very close to 2 yellows with his tackling. A moody ref and he'd be off. Duff and Berbatov were probably joint my MOTM, Rodallega had is best game, but still seems to lack control in his passing. Another solid performance from the back 4. Kacaniklic was a bit off the pace and chose the wrong pass a few times, Ruiz came on and gave us that bit more spark in midfield, but he does have to try and stop dribbling the ball out of defense, as he still is a bit light-weight in the tackle, but did well to hold off a few barges for Duffs goal. A good 3 points to get before the Man City game up next weekend.
Thanks SuperBri. Glad you had a good day out - we'll have to send you more often. I only watched it on a PC and would concede to anyone seeing the game live, but you seem a wee bit generous about the back four. Thought Hughes probably had his worse game in a while and JAR one or two of his defensive lapses reminiscent of the early part of last season. Agree about Sidwell, I was urging Jol to sub him (given we just can't afford any CM to be banned). But enough of the negatives, nice instead to - * have our best start in a decade * be the league's top goal scorers * be 4th
