http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19667219 Football is being ruined with money and greed as it is.
hmmmm....that does seem dodgy, i wrote this on the jack board but it seems my instincs were wrong... 'yes i read this and it has misquote written all over it for me.... havent heard the interview and context and i suspect this is the work of a journalist trying to make something controversial out of nothing.......;
shocking stuff from mike init..........but funny thing i was thinking the other day(no wise cracks) what swansea were doing with theyre windfall and how the fk they won so many games against the big boys........no mystery anymore hey.
I think lots of this odd conversation may have been lost in translation etc. Just another journo after some sort of story.
isaw, the interview was conducted in english and is on the BBC website, see this link http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19667219 in italy and spain in the 80's this thing would have been rife.... and worse...
If I understood it correctly Laudrup was inferring it was okay for one club to pay another club a bonus if they beat another side that was perhaps in a relegation fight. Is that wrong? Bear in mind strikers get a goal bonus and players invariably play to win. Paying to lose is another thing altogether.
Personally, I think its just bullshit journalism again. Even the video is cropped and edited to give the wrong context. http://www.thisissouthwales.co.uk/Swansea-City-boss-Michael-Laudrup-clarifies/story-16957210-detail/story.html
I totally agree I see no harm in it, if it's ok to pay players bonuses for goal scored, win bonuses and appearance fees! Whats the difference?! Football is ridiculous in away I've never known a job where you get paid to do a job then expect more when you go out to do it?! Here's £20000 a week and if you play you get another £1000 I'm off to work now shall I ask for an appearance fee coz I actually turned up to do a job I'm paid for?! Any ways there's my moan over with!
It's stupid !... you don't pay opposing players to do anything .... the problem with Danes ' is every time they open their mouth , other than in their own language , they say something .
heard the intrvew this evning. It's what he said. I undrstand it to a point. Paying a bonus to win is one thing as it's th idea of the game, winning. Paying to lose is something different. Still don't agree with it to be honest.
He didn't say paying to lose as he said that is wrong! But no harm paying a club to beat your rival so there is financial reward! After thinking hard about it I can see that it would be hard to monitor and regulate and could cause more problems then it's worth!! I think they should get rid of all sorts of fees for goals appearances assists etc! But that's just me!
Being paid by your own club is one thing for whatever you achieve but being paid by an outsider who has no connection with your club or employer to influence the outcome of a game, win, lose, draw, get booked, sent off, arrange the first corner, throw in, free kick whatever is just not on. It is an outside influence and totally contrary to the rules, spirit, ethics of the game. If this is allowed or condoned then throw the rule book out of the window and allow all forms of betting, drug taking and any form of cheating you care to mention. If/when that happens then its the end of the beautiful game I'm off to watch another sport. I'm not so naive to believe some of that doesn't happen now but if it does then its under the counter and illegal and if caught those involved risk major penalties.
BFB, isn't that what sponsors are already doing? Nike sponsor a players boots, Kappa sponsor the kit, Swansea sponsor Liverpool to beat Norwich in the final game to keep them in the prem. Paying a bonus to win a game is not against the rules, every (well I guess almost every player) will have a win bonus in their contract. What's that all about? In my opinion the win bonus is you'll get paid if you win, you'll get eff all if you lose, nice and simple.
Sponsors don't play the game ... bad idea no matter how you paint it . I understand the concept of teams , late in the season , not playing there best if it means nothing to them but this is no better than that . Rich teams can pay another team for a win , poor teams can't ... the entire Leagues are " Greed " induced already , do we want it worse !
Laudrup wants a bit more clarification on the rules around a very sticky issue. He has raised a valid point. However, it goes against the spirit of the game and rules have been put in place. However, what he suggests is valid to a point. But if a team that has performed badly all season suddenly gets a win against the title challengers then it's a different scenario. How have they suddenly beaten the challengers? Was money their only motivation? Another thing to bear in mind is kit sponsors. Usually they will sponsor a winning team (no brainer) so, as an extreme, Man Utd have a 10 year deal with "Bodge it and Leggit" worth 50 million. Are they not being paid to win? Bodge may stay around but most will leggit after a season or two of poor results. What's the difference if Swansea paid sponsorship to Liverpool to beat Norwich? Not a long term deal but sponsorship all the same.
A manager , late in the season & without a relegation or promotion fight , is pondering to rest a few of their #1's to experiment with a few fringe players . A relegation battle is brewing between two teams & the cozy manager has to play both , one of them is a rich team ......yadda yadda yadda ..
If this is the way football has gone where fans ask questions like this then the game as i knew it has totally gone. Dont know who Swanseas shirt sponsors are but I want to go out this afternoon for a few beers and havent enough time to point out all the differences.
football is one big lie at the top ends...........money makes people greedy in any work of life,and tbh its very easy 2 manipulate greedy types so there goes the merry-go-round. if you want honest football then its gotta be grass roots where the lads aint payed but play for the love of the game(pub football)........ive been in the mix myself as a youngster with cardiff city leeds luton town and newport county......from club 2 international selection there was a underlying jobs for the boys and for some reason a pushing aside of the best raw talent in wales was infact plain 2 see.......jason bowen is my prime example of this process way behind his team mates in the swansea youth team and way behind me who found him less talented than some of the local aberdare league lads......................with my own eyes i witnessed a lad like john charles who played his football in the ebbw vale district not considered for the welsh squad and this lad smashed every kid they put infront of him>>>a player i would never ever have wanted 2 mark again because he was really that good......he possibly went on 2 become a great bricky <what a waste> football is flawed lads and it starts at youth level and continues right away through until you may be lucky enough 2 work for the media pundits mens club where you continue 2 do as your told for money and stay onboard the gravy train
Hilts, the game we all played as kids has gone forever. Aber, spot on, grass roots footy is where the real passion is. Money has ruined the game.
