Beth, been a QPR since mid-70s, but moved to Greenock 12years ago, so I get to follow Rs from afar, and watch Morton - lucky enough to see two teams in real hoops! Good history Diablo!
Daib0 - has that poster from the old BBC site joined you, can't recall the exact name: EgregiousGastropod or summat? He was slightly sinister if truth be told! Enjoyed the shirt history though.
You possiobly mean EP - Extended-Phenotype? If it were, then he came over with the 50 or so core group of the old BBC-ers but was slightly uncomfortable both sides to be honest, and he's now with another (rival) forum. But we're over 9 times that amount now in our first 20 months as 'Royals Rendezvous'. Coming from where we did, you're assured a friendly reception, even got a specific 'Rivals, but Friends' section !
Isn't that sinister Tooting when i read daib0 post and he mentioned 606 i thought about that bloke. Agreed he was a weird one. I remember having debates with him and thought what a 'donut'. Good honest post daib0 I went to a Reading game in the 80's at Elm park and they never sang 'come on you R's' then or at the Bolton Play off final and i think it's only been picked up in recent years. Always remembered them as the 'Biscuitmen' due to the H&P factory. Anyway things change (look at Cardiff) and as long as you support your team then that's all that matters.
Excellent article daib0, although the 1872 Reading hoops are challenging my eyesight as well as the trade descriptions act...
Completely agree. Respect anyone who does that - even Leeds and Glasgow Rangers. (Off topic but we've got a Halley's Comet moment in the Scottish 3rd division. Queens Park one place above 'Rangers'!)
Isn't the most important point (unless I'm very much mistaken) that you (Reading) currently don't have a hooped shirt? It's Blue and White horizontal stripes on the front, and plain white on the back. To my mind, a hoop has to go all the way around a shirt to be a hoop. Otherwise it is a horizontal stripe. Or am I being silly? Doesn't really bother me too much either way, but I enjoy the banter!
Always thought stripes ran vertically and hoops horizontally. Is there such thing as a half-hoop or band?
Hoops go all the way around, anything that doesnt go all the way around is a horizontal stripe. eg anything with a plain back or plain bit down the sides.
Good write up mate. Interesting to see how kits have changed over the years. I have a couple of Reading supporting mates and the usual banter does often move over into discussing the hoops of both teams!
Believe me, I'd love to but I'm stuck away in North Spain (Pamplona) in a great economic depression, my wage has just been cut by a sixth and I've two school-age kids. So hardly back at all this season, hope it picks up by next season. Only saving grace is that in the premier you find more streams on internet!! Otherwise everything fine, cheers ...
