And it is not every Italian either - that's my point.

There is no debate to be had about the racism, everyone is against it. And the people that aren't are hardly likely to come out in support.
The debate on the punishment is interesting, but UEFA are too toothless/gutless to do any of them. Also, you could end up with a situation where rival fans attend games as home fans and do racist chanting in order to get the team docked points.
Short of finding the individuals and issuing fines i'm not sure what can be done without punishing the innocent

im really getting torn to shreds with my wording today <laugh>

but i dont think the clubs are innocent..especially repeat offenders...when you allow your fans to enter your stadia with gigantic fascist flags etc then your turning a blind eye.

punish the clubs..punish them enough that they realise they dont need such support and ban them...i dont see the problem.

punish the club so that those innocent fans who's enjoyment has been ruined can dob the culprits.

there are ways....just depends on wether it is important enough....UEFA are happy enough to just wave the flag i.e the Respect campaign.

I can see where you are coming from but i can't see it happening while the innocent outnumber the guilty.
Also, i'd highly doubt whether the guilty actually cared about the team anyway. Its like the millwall/west ham "fans" that just turn up to fight. They could dock points from Lazio and these dicks would still turn out and do it.

Uefa were swift to act on ALL english supporters following Heysel, so I'm afraid upsetting the good majority to punish a few ****ers is just the way it is.

Ban the club concerned....they have been warned, they have been fined on more then one occassion...it ain't worked so ban them.

It was the banning of English clubs that got rid of the hooligans...it was harsh but the rest of Europe weren't subjected to Englands thug element beating **** out of European fans ... now is the time to ban the clubs who have these ****ers making racist chants.

    But I suspect it'll be a £20, 000 fine... now that'll show them.

They're busy working elsewhere and collecting bungs. Platini was there so I can't see why he can't just act straight away, he must've heard it.

Did you notice the body language between platini and levy? Either levy really doesn't like platini or platini really smells, or both.

I don't get the timeframe for it, either.
There's no argument about whether it happened or not, so why the delay?
Allow Lazio to state their defence and dish out the punishment.
Perhaps they could point to things that they've done to try and prevent this sort of thing from happening?

I was at the game so didn't see what the TV showed. It's a good job he wasn't sat near me though <laugh>

It lets the anger die down a bit, people will forget what they did wrong by the time they actually get around to doing very little about it.

Three pages to find some sanity. Thanks Spurlock. If anybody wants to debate what their club was doing in 1976 regarding black players, start another thread. The fact remains that the Lazio fans (my guess is Italian, every man-jack of them) racially abused our players in front of Platini. If they get a fine of more than 10,000 Euros it will be an absolute miracle. We may not be perfect here, far from it, but it seems to me that we are at least 20 years ahead of most countries in the field of race relations

Some of my closest mates are Italian so I strongly object to the claim all Italians are racist

Didn't Ashley Young/Ashley Cole/Daniel Sturridge get racially abused by their own fans on international duty?

This Xenophobe thing is ridiculous, recently Liverpool, United, Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea, West Ham, Millwall, Gillingham fans have all had isolated incidents re: racism at their clubs. We are in no position to take the moral high ground.

agree with D/L, my mate's wife is Italian decent,so i know a lot of italians and none of them are racist, however there is still a lot of racism in Europe that needs sorting.

    Agree completely tots.

Go to Plymouth, Devon or places outside major UK cities where the BME population is low or non-existent and it would be as bad if not moreso than being amongst Lazio's away support last night. My mum was telling me just the other day about a friends daughter who received abhorrent racial abuse in Plymouth (the uni) si much so that she considered quitting.

I'm not saying all people outside major cities are racist but if you live amongst and embrace different cultures it makes it far easier to generalise and pass judgement

Lets not get carried away here, as its blatantly obvious Spurlock only mentioned "italians", as Lazio are an italian team, much like if Lazio were being dirty, fans would have said "them dirty italians" and for example if an English team wins in Europe by playing lucky (crap football) what do fans from other nations say "look at them boring negative english", does that mean all english are boring & negative? no.

From what I gather about Italian football, and their fans, there is a high level of these ultras, right wing, racists, who will abuse their own players, as well as the opposition.

Now say what you like about this country (and their are many racists in football), but It isn't prominent and isn't wide spread to the point that if you attend a game its likely you will hear racist abuse. I know many people that attend games have racist views, yet its not common chanting in the premier league. Not sure about the lower leagues but if there was a problem then it would have been picked up on.

Really, did they? I don't remember that.

Apart from Millwall and Gillingham of which I'm not familiar of the examples you're referring too, Spurs is the only one that had chanting in and in that case many didn't think what they were singing is racist and hasn't been sung in the stands since. Lazio's was different, of course it was and you'd have to go back 20 years or so to find racist chanting on the level of that in the English top flight.
