Don't think it was an intentional dig at you personally Spurlock but just pointing out that the title and first line could be easily misinterpreted!
Point taken. I just wrote the article like I speak for example whilst discussing yesterday's match I was saying things like 'the Italians are a dirty bunch' 'the Italians are making monkey chants' Surely I don't mean everyone, was talking within the context of the match. But fair enough, I understand how it could have been taken...sometimes I type like I talk and presume fellow football fans will get what I mean. Let's get back to topic and what kind of behaviour does it take before the book is thrown at racists? Platini was at the match...so he really has no excuse to hand out a lame fine and can really put the 'respect' campaign into full swing and show it's strength...but he won't.
Ironically the OP is in itself racist, or could be defined as thus. Haven't read the comments yet, this has probably been pointed out. Hope UEFA get the fans responsible.
The Italians aren't a race and Italian football does have quite a lot of problems with racism still. Stop trying to stir.
Oh shutup NI, did not need your 2 pence worth. I'm not changing it... Not my problem you trip up easily. P.s I couldn't really give a damn...I would think twice to sitting amongst any Italian or Eastern European fans whilst watching a match. Don't blame me for my reaction... Years of evidence would back me...as did the Euro 2012 documentary and Di Canio with his right wing salutes in front of Fans of an Italian club. I am on a football forum discussing football if I meant the average Italian I would have made that clear. I agree with your last line.
I thought that there were well know problems with racism in Italian football? Balotelli's been the focus of racist chants for years, including a persistent one about there being "no black Italians" and the Gazzetta dello Sport even published this: please log in to view this image Whereas Tuttosport thought that this was an acceptable headline: please log in to view this image Translated it literally means, "We have made them black". There are various articles about it online and Lazio have been fined for it before. http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2012/03/racism-in-serie-a-and-italian-football/ http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/8511106.stm
I don't find it alarming personally, just passing comment. They are arguably a sub-set of one of your main racial groups (could call them Southern European Caucasian for example), depending on how you want to define the term. Perhaps I should have said xenophobic. But again, I wasn't doing anything more than passing comment. No big deal. You posted on an open forum, you'll get responses whether you want them or not. That's the point, really. But I get your point - I was just passing comment, which is hard to convey online. I too would think twice - they seem to have a fair few who tip the scale from passionate to dangerous. UEFA will have to do something, however paltry it turns out to be. Although Platini did play for Juve, so maybe he'll come down hard!
I'm not telling you not to post so don't come out with all that... The only on topic remark you made you got a response. Always baffles me when posters go totally off tangent and start to derail a thread with petty point making, when really you know what I meant...therefore bollocks to that. Back on the very important subject of Italians being racist at a game AGAIN!
You responded accusing the OP of racism by taking what he said out of context and without even bothering to read the comments which would've cleared up what he was saying. You're more than welcome to give your opinion on here but make an effort, eh?
Goodness me you're both touchy today. I did purposefully say 'or could be defined as thus'. Anyway, this won't go anywhere. And Yid you will also note the word 'yet'. Won't derail the thread, hope they all get life-time bans and goodbye
Off topic mate - you lot are the most racist set of fans and apparently player (Nazi captain) I've had the disgrace to encounter. You lot were throwing bananas at black players not so long ago.
I'd appreciate if you didn't bunch us altogether like some ignorant **** would by saying 'you lot'. Don't 'mate' me aswell, it's people like you who are nearly as problematic in society as the actual racists, being someone who stereotypes is an ugly trait to have. Doesn't surprise me coming from you though, your obsessions with us cloud any modocum of fair judgement you may have, you'd probably say Mother Theresa was a **** if she was a Chelsea fan, probably say she was racist too
Some grounds never threw bananas mate - or had the National Front magazine on open sale around your ground etc etc etc
Of course "some grounds never threw bananas", but to suggest it was solely Chelsea is sheer ignorance.
And not all Italians are racist at all ....- in fact far from it.... but we talking about a trend ... - the shoe fits in your case - you'd get more respect admitting your past Drogs than denial.
There you go again with 'your past, your club, you' etc etc, I have not denied a single thing regarding a minority of racists who follow our club but you said 'you' which includes myself. I take offence to that and it was not every single fan, far from it.
