    it was a good rodgering

some good performances by the lads, and some not so good, which surprisingly (to me anyway lol) is mainly the older ones who were poor.

That was a truly shocking error by Enrique. What on earth was he trying to do?

Not just that, he carelessly gives away free kicks right at the edge of the box and gives away possession in our own half. He just looks awful, I feel bad for Coates and Wisdom who were both very steady, but are bundled in with the poor defending from the others.

suck me RHC..... even rhymes that!

Talk about lucky lucky lucky.... i'm glad we didn't get a beating but if anyone thinks that was good..... its a long way form the days where rafa made us a force in europe. I said yesterday a late lucky goal would be great to make it 1-0.... i nthe end we got a lucky goal early, threw in sloppy goals again, wisdom did well and then we were 2-3 down and staring down the barrel of embaressment before yuong boys simply selfdestructed. we need that to progress but we need to be an awful lot better against the other sides i nthe group.

I am just hoping its not this weekend where we get handed a drubbing... i've not seen a good defensive performance all year and neither a convincing attacking one. It's due guys, if we can get past utd without one i'll be happy.

Coates and Wisdom were let down by the experienced Carragher and Enrique. Can't really say too much on the game because I was studying and watching the game at the same time so I wasn't really focussed on either!

I was really impressed with Wisdom though - looked so calm, composed and classy on the ball. He definately fits Rodgers's system and I can't wait to see him play more often.

Suso looked good - again, composed on the ball, has the ability to shrug off defenders (Silva-esq) and then find the pass/man.

Assaidi looks decent - beat the man a few times, drives into the box. Fearless.

From what I can remember, I was fuming about Downing - at times, the midfield were passing so crisply and quickly and then it would get to Downing and it would slow down or he would lose it.

I most certainly will not! No-one said it was perfect, but they showed great resilience. I hope some of the regular first team took note. Going behind needn't mean losing.

Yet again, we go a goal behind and we fought back! The team seems to be more resillient these days and are showing character and some fighting spirit.

  10. We took the lead three times and went behind once. Resilience works in two ways <ok>

True but based on the last couple of seasons, once we go down, we usually lose. Giving up our leads was down to inexperience and individual errors which I'm sure we will cut out. But these youngsters fought back and won the game pretty comfortably in the end.

Is it me or is every player coming out of the acadamy look so comfortable on the ball? Wisdom and Suso were happy to receive the ball in tight situations and just shrug off the opposition. The touch and technique shown is superb.

after last nights performance would you consider Johnson our starting LB with Kelly on the right? or would Enrique still be first choice for you? Id take Johnson and Kelly

MITO Bleeding out his ladybits again today.

Considering the mishmash of this season so far and that things are not going great and also that a tiny bit has changed.. <doh> and given that I though we were done at 3 2 down.. it was great to see the lads pull it back and earn their corn. Yes the performance was not great but the heads did not drop. Young boys did not self destruct, this was a big game for them and as with Spurs, they raised their game and again as with Spurs, they fell away later in the game which is often the case in a game like this where the fancied team is not performing.

This could have been a banana skin so <ok>

We scored 5 away goals, cannot be bad

From the word go I thought our defence looked fragile and we would concede goals. Strangely, at 3-2 down I still felt we could come back.
However, it's pointless trying to extrapolate last night to the rest of the season- how often are we going to have a starting line-up like that?
It was a great opportunity to see how some of the younger players can perform under the spotlight.

  15. I'd say they have determination, will power and team spirit <ok>

I have been impressed with a few of the youngsters that I have seen. Felt sorry for Pacheco last night though, he got stuck upfront and seems to be stranded and kept dropping deep or wide in search of the ball which obviously left us short (more than usual) in the box at times.

I agree with this, I think Rodgers has made it clear from his team selections that he doesn't rate/trust Enrique. It will be interesting to see if Kelly or Johnson get injured, if he turns to Robinson before Enrique in a league game, as Robinson did pretty well in pre season.

  17. It does seem that way but injuries have been an issue too. Seems strange to me since Enrique is keen to maintain possession and often looks to pass or dribble in crazy areas (see last night for details) which Rodgers likes his defenders to do. Enrique's downfall (other than current form) is his attacking abilities. His crossing is very hit and miss plus his finishing his as bad as Carraghers! (not that he is in the side to score goals)

I think Johnson on the left creates a slight inbalance but also like the idea of Kelly, Flanno or Wisdom getting game time too <ok>

Two of the goals were caused by dithering. Carragher and Enrique were at fault for both. Enrique has been poor for the last 9 months, he needs to step it up and cut out the mistakes. Otherwise, it was a fine performance, Jordan Henderson looked the player we thought we signed, and Suso was marvellous on his debut as were Andre Wisdom and Assaidi.

  19. Suso came into his own in the second half, particularly when he got pushed forward onto the right side of the attack <ok>

Correct. He has the ability to avoid challenges, he must have got through 4 at one stage, but his final ball let him down.
