The next issue of the Chelsea Magazine will be the 100th edition. To mark the ovccasion they will be conducting a poll to identify the fans favourite player of all time! The prompt I've been given displays shots of Peter Bonetti,Dennis Wise,Frank Lampard,Ashley Cole,John Terry,Didier Drogba,Franco Zola,Jimmy Greaves,Charlie Cooke,Kerry Dixon and Peter Osgood! I presume we wont be given just this list to choose from and that we can select who we want. It doesn't after all contain Tambling, Venables, Hudson , Cech and lots of other potential favourites. As for me this is going to take up one hell of a lot of thinking time ! Get ready Blues for the big vote!
i'm not a Chelsea fan,but a massive Jimmy Greaves fan,but it's not him because i did'nt see him play for Chelsea,my favorite players for you were ,Peter Osgood, and moreso, Charlie Cooke.
Few of them were well before my time so unfair for me to just pick one of the old boys but i've seen a lot of old videos and Graves and Osgood were pure class. I can't actually pick tbh, I loved Carvahlo, one of my favourite defenders ever in football, loved Zola as well guy was pure magic and turned us from a dull team into a magic one. Terry is captain fantastic and is the best leader i've ever seen in football and that's not me being bias but he has always laid his body on the line. Lampard is one of the best midfielders i've ever seen and his goalscoring record is phenemonal and we'll never see a midfielder like that again who can reguarly get 20 a season. Coles the best left back we have ever had imo same for Cech as goalkeeper, both are pure class. But i'm gunna have to go for the big man. Love Drogba and he has lit up the club in every aspect, 9 goals in 9 cup finals, goals when we need it, always rises to the occasion and has brought so much glory to our club. But the one thing i'll love more than anything is the way he led by example like Terry, he always use to try and rally us, give us a pep talk, get us going if we were down and always tried to pull us out of the bottom. Pure legend and the best striker and player we have ever had tbh, it was close between him and Zola but after this year i think Drogs just pulled clear. Every single one of them plus a whole load more that are not on the list will never be forgotten either, i'm grateful we have had so many good players play for our club. Other notable mentions along with the ones you've listed - Ed De Goey, LeSaux, Lebeouf, Vialli, Gullit, Wise, Di Matteo,
When I was a kid , I worked after school in a grocers shop for a couple of hours! I'll never forget the day a lot of my young mates stood outside the door to announce that Chelsea had sold him to Milan for £99,999 (he didn't want to become the world's 1st £100k player). I had to take the next week off!
As a neutral he of course came to Stoke from Chelsea. Has to be Alan Hudson. Also thought Osgood was your best striker in my time anyway. I remember the goal Osgood scored in the 72 League Cup Final too! Both were GREAT players IMHO. I've also heard that Hudson will be with his former Chelsea colleges on Saturday. All the best to you guys AFTER Saturday of course. But my head say's you will probably batter us anyway. And those who think Lampard may be past it? IMO he's still more than worth his place. Would be first choice on my team sheet every week.
I always looks forward to Stoke, you guys are a challenge to beat! Never understand the stick you get from other clubs (particularly the Gooners), the Premier League is all about different styles of play competing against each other. As for my favourite Chelsea player, well it has to be Gullit for me! I can only really comment on the players I've seen live and it's a close match between Franco and Ruud. John Spencer up there too.
#1) Stop crawling around opposing football fans. It's ****ing pathetic #2)You never saw Ruud & Franco play live. You're far too young. The only Chelsea players you've seen are when your mummy & daddy let you watch MOTD as a special treat for tidying your bedroom on a Saturday morning
#3) Stop trying to crawl around me aswell Shouldn't you be doing your school lessons rather than ****ing about on a computer ?
This was really hard to decide. Found it difficult to choose between Gianfranco Zola and Didier Drogba. I voted for Zola after a lot of thinking.
Drogs 99 per cent of the stick we get is from Arsenal fans Cym I exclude you goodself from the above comment so don't take it personally. We're trying to play more football but anyone who thinks we (Stoke) can get anything on Saturday needs their head read IMO. That said, I'll take a pt now and move on.
On more serious note.I'm always sceptical of these surveys as the majority of those who reply are the younger element of a team's support.I remember Arsenal doing a best 50 player survey a couple of years ago. Some of the names that made it on and their position on that list were ludicrous
Cym--You are of course right when you say that the age of voters will steer it towards a recent/current player. Perhaps they should have categories! PS who did you vote for in the Arsenal vote--Dennis Compton?
