My youngest runs a clinic that helps people with ear problems. She invited me to go to Stoke Mandeville and let her look in my ears. Oh you have a little bit of bone missing, have you had a blow on it at sometime. Looking up at the screen she pointed out where it should be. "Of course I have had a blow on it, I was a goalkeeper."

I left and for the next four days was almost totally deaf. When I reported this to her, she said that it was not unusual. <doh>

My work is moving so for a time I will walk to work again. One year ago I moved and I have used my car. I think 4km walking in one day is good for me.

I am doing between 45-60 mins every night on my exercise bike except the weekend and being careful what I eat, counting the calories and I can see the difference!

that's a lot! i was doing 45 mins and 10 mins on the treadmill 3 times a week before the blow out lol...starting again next week, but i don't think i could do it every day! It'd be good to know how far i travel, i need to be competitive with myself...otherwise i lack motivation..

I know it's cheesy but set yourself goals to reach, do one night note distance, cals, time taken then next time beat the distance in less time etc etc!

that's the trouble, i don't have a counter on the bike so i have no idea how many calories i'm burning, how far i've 'travelled', etc...for me, it's the only way to improve, to have those things. Without them i don't enjoy exercise..i need that competitive bit..

Mr H bought some counter or other, but it doesn't count distance or calories...i'm honestly not sure what it does count! lol. It's very posh looking though!

My polar one does Calories, not distance, time in HR zone and the bike does distance. TBH I look at the cals I have burned more than anything else! Like I have said as I use My Fitness Pal I have a set amount of cals per day and I get extra if I do Exercise, it works for me;)

on mine, as i can't measure calories or distance, i can only put in that i've cycled for 45 minutes...it works out roughly how many calories that is, but as it's not exact, it doesn't excite me, nor does it motivate...i need to work out a way to measure, otherwise i'm going to go off the bike idea pretty darn quickly.

Well I suppose I am lucky then as the Polar counts cals, the time done and HR, the bike does time distance and Cals. Only £40 from a second hand shop;) Billy bonus;)

thing is, my bike is a bike, and it sits on the bike trainer, so by day it's a bike, but when i'm on it, it doesn't go anywhere, if that makes sense lol. Still, your idea of a spin dvd could help, coz i could up the gears as i get better :)
