Stay away from the drugs the Docs and Health service get paid for lashing em out Swamp.......... They get commission for every new drug they try out and it balances their books!!! Try take the natural way and best wishes M8 ...;O)
I would dispute that. There are national guidelines for medication/treatment for MH conditions that Drs follow.
with all due respect posh.....the guildlines on herbal treatment in this country are shocking>>>for some reason we give chemicals 2 patients that have lots of other side effects, its almost like they are pushing drugs on us whilst testing at the same time. im sure OUR goverment wouldnt treat us 2 lies mind
We will need to agree to disagree on this subject Rubber ball Just not keen to see a young person who is concerned about his health being advised not to take his Drs advice. As for depression in a young person - medication would not be the first care option unless someone was severely depressed. However, where clinically recommended anti-depressants can save lives, despite their unpleasant side-effects
no worries posh i can see both sides of this and both sides are right if giving the attention needed in helping individuals.......tbh this day and age they like 2 put things in boxes and im not sure being completely dependant on the health services is the correct way 2 go.....what im saying is dont put all your eggs in one basket cos there is alternatives out there>>>wether its herbal, spiritual or physical exercise. slightly off tangent but for example posh, the "lockerbie bomber"(so they say) had 3 month`s 2 live in britain with its medicines for cancer but a so called backward country like libya is giving treatments where he is still alive alive oh .
great example I completely agree that many things go to making up good mental health & am a total advocate of healthy life-style changes .... however a youngster was brave enough to ask for help on here & I would like to see that he gets the help/support/education he needs to find the right way for him
IMO its very important this is the advice taken and not the 'you'll be a human guinea pig' ****e posted above. Swamp I haven't commented up until now as I believed any advice I could give had already been posted. I totally add my weight to the go see your GP advice. As Posh says there should be numerous options before meds, if your GP thinks medication is the way forward though, then I wouldn't let a football forums advice put you off! All the best mate and if posting on here helps you get your thoughts out it can only be a good thing.
Can I suggest you google Neuro Linguistic Programming Cardiff and approach a therapist. Anti depressants are not addictive, and could be of some use, although some people report side effects when they discontinue them. People confuse anti depressants with drugs like diazepam (valium) which are addictive. Anti depressants tend to provide a kind of artificial buffer between the person & unpleasant feelings, therefore maybe better for a short term remedy for acute depression. Better to challenge self defeating beliefs on an unconscious level. Let us know how you get on, seems to be a lot of people interested
Swamp much respect for putting it out there mate. I would strongly advise that you make an appointment with your GP, and discuss the way you are feeling with him/or her whichever is the case. You state that it is in the family your doctor is best placed to discuss any treatment you may require with you. Swamp have a gander at the link below it will give you some idea. But please make an appointment with your GP in any case that would be my advice too you at this point. http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/depression/Pages/Introduction.aspx Good luck Cheers Mabon
some trust in GP`S........im not one of those people. seek a gp swamp but do some research yourself on the subject and see whats available
swamp there`s a good chance u havnt got an illness at all but you need 2 get 2 the bottom of what makes you feel down on times try and make a list of the high and low points and what may trigger these changes it may just be an age thing with all the pressures put on people these days.speak with your family as they can help having been through it themselves.
I made a simmilar comment on my post Aber. We had an experience of 'we can't work out what box to put you in' which ended up in 'we can't help'. As many have said, the mind is a complex thing with an infinite variation in operation, it's why we are all different. We can pigeon hole things that are similar, but they are unlikley to be the same. Fingers crossed for you Swamp.
Hi Swamp - You've made a great start by admitting you may have a problem with depression. The best thing to do next would be to see your doctor, and take it from there. The main thing to understand at this point is that it's not your fault, and it is not you 'feeling miserable' or sorry for yourself. Good luck!
Swamp, sorry for the delay in replying, but hopefully my advice will be of some help. 7 years ago, when I was 18, I suffered from depression. My childhood was shocking, and through the years of growing up, it never showed signs of affecting me. Shorly after my eighteenth birthday, I started getting down. I wasn't enjoying myself if I went out, I was getting moody, snappy, and ad a tendancy to start a fight with any bloke that would even look at me. I hid all this away and did nothing. During this time, I didn't sleep much, I lost my job, and I nearly lost my driving license for wreckless driving. One night, I was walking home and on my route home, I cross a river bridge. I sat on that bridge for 2 hours, feet over the edge debating wether to just let go or not. For some reason still unknown to me, I pulled myself off the bridge. It was this that made me realise I had a serious problem. I spoke with my Grandmother, and she said then that the hardest part is admitting you have a problem. From there, I spoke with my GP and so forth. After months of counselling and mild pills, I got myself a job, a girlfriend and things were looking up. I took up a hobby (Lawn bowls - For the relaxing side of it, the walking oudoors and the socialising). To this day, I still have that job, I have trials for Wales in outdoor bowls, and I still have that girl, whom I married 2 weeks ago. I still get my off days mate. I don't think depression ever really goes away fully and it's a constant battle to not go down that route, but the good things always outwiegh the bad things. Please, speak with your GP and listen to what they have to say, don't let things lie as they will only become worse. Do keep away from anything with to much caffeine, and stay off the alcohol until you have spoken with your GP. Also, take regular walks to clear your mind. If you need to talk mate, I'm only a PM away. I'v been there, and I know how your feeling. Don't keep it locked in like I did.
SWAMP ! Firstly well done for actually thinking and for admitting there is a problem. It is not your fault, nor is it a weakness. Obviously your feeling low however it will improve, but you need help. Firstly your missus/partner will already know there's something wrong probably by your behaviour , shortness of temper , disturbed sleep pattern early waking, unable to concentrate. They are probably already worried and wondering how to broach the subject with you. Are you self medicating ( drinking? taking drugs to numb the feeling? ) Stop if you are . Bite the bullet make an appointment to see GP and tell partner. Bad news is I'm a jack fan however, if you want to chat pm me .I've been there.
Swamp – well done for acknowledging you have a problem – that is the first step to recovery! I have also suffered from depression a few times in my life and have got past it. First of all, it is important to let family and friends know how you feel; they can offer you support and that is so important. Secondly, go to your GP ASAP! Some on here seem totally against anti-depressants, but they have literally saved my life! The first time I suffered, like you, I thought it was all my fault!!! ITS NOT!!!! It is a chemical imbalance in the brain – the brain’s ‘feel good’ chemical is serotonin – a lack of serotonin results in feeling low, and in extreme cases, depression! Anti-depressants boost levels of serotonin and restore balance in the brain; please ignore the horror stories; anti-depressants do not make the condition worse, and despite what JH says, GP’s are there to help you – not score commission from the drugs they prescribe! Go and see your GP asap! He or she will have helped countless people in your position. The first time I suffered depression, like you, I thought it was my fault – I was a man FFS, why can’t I just ‘snap out of it! I refused to acknowledge it for 7 months and just sank lower and lower; I had no interest in anything – I would go days without any sleep and ate practically nothing. I was just existing; I forced myself to eat just to survive, although I had little interest in that either! Depression is one of the most common illnesses of modern times and there is no shame attached to suffering from it! If you had a virus you would see your doctor and take the pills that he/she prescribed – a mental illness is just the same; there is no shame in seeking help so get your arse to the doctor as soon as possible!! As I said earlier, I refused to acknowledge I had a problem for 7 miserable months before I was frogmarched to the doctors by my mother; I was prescribed a course of anti-depressants and in a matter of weeks I started to feel better; a couple of weeks after that I felt normal and from then on it was all good! What I really want to tell you is that you don’t have to feel this way, get help and you can change it! If you want to talk then PM me, if you do and you want my phone number to talk things through then I am up for that! Stay strong mate, get help, get advice, and you will come through this no problem!
There are also drug companys that pay big money for the Drs to pass on their brand ............. Good to hear the news Swamp and get yourself down the CCS in front of 22000+ fans and yell your heart out .....works for me ,lol
