"Half of the reason behind low gates, is because of the bollocks that happened in the past." Would you care to expand, I don't get what you are trying to say. The rest of your post was pretty decent though.
It's funny the way people who have the guts to stand up against racism get called; girls, pansies, wet ****s etc by the keyboard warriors. I'm willing to bet that everyone on this board who agrees with using racist references would piss their pants if they had to explain their views face to face with our own black players. Spot the hypocrisy?
I agree it isn't funny but being unfunny doesn't make it hurt anyone. Can you explain how it's any different to joking that Brighton is full of gays or that Leeds is **** cos it's full of scum?
I had a couple of friends of Pakistani origin in a previous job. They lived in Bradford and indeed referred to it as Bradistan themselves. We had a bit of a laugh over it and no-one was offended. Words themselves are not offensive - it's the attitude and context behind the words that's often the problem.
At what point this this become about racism anyway? It was about Turkey chants and Gary ****ing speed.
The points about the Charlton game were made by Circa. I responded to his points - Are you saying he's a liar.
What I am saying Craig in Nottingham is that you are on your moral high horse based on unsubstansiated posts on this forum. Spot the hypocrisy? I most certainly did.
I've ignored most of the daft comments in this thread because most of them have come from what I imagine are 50+ year olds who we're better off waiting for them to die rather than change their age old beliefs that they've (wrongly) been brought up with. However, from what I remember, you're fairly young so I'm concerned. The examples you've brought up are, quite frankly, ridiculous. Yes, in an ideal world race would just be viewed as just another characteristic, but as you well know, it isn't. There's no simple way of explaining it in words, but when there's hate groups targeting fat and old people, then I'd say pointing out those characteristics and using them negatively is out of order too. Fact is, race has for too long been a characteristic that people have been persecuted for and to lump it in with people being fat, old or a 'twat' is simplistic and wrong. As for your Muslim comment, that has nothing to do with it, that's basically just you assuming everybody who's the same colour has the same religion, which is incredibly offensive and ignorant. Come on, you're meant to be the moderator here, show a bit of responsibility.
I guess you are calling him a liar then? Why shouldn't I believe something a fellow poster says? Do you want the same rule to apply to everything you say? So therefore everything you've said is lies until you produce proof. Talk sense.
Erm, who mentioned religion? I thought we were talking about ethnicity and racism. There's quite a few Sikhs knocking around you know?
But that's exactly it, it is just another characteristic like fatness age or whatever. I'm well aware that people have historically (and in some ****ed up parts of the world even now) persecuted for their race or religion, but why does that mean you can't call them a name like you can with anyone else? As long as it is in no way related to actual abuse based on race then I really don't see the issue. Who cares if someone says 'Leicesteristan'? It doesn't mean they're going to go to Leicester and start persecuting all the inhabitants from -stan countries. I don't know what you mean by my muslim comment by the way. I'm well aware that there are several -stan countries and many of them are predominantly hindu or other religions, not just muslim. I didn't say anything to suggest all people from -stan countries were muslims. If it came across that way (BBC seems to think so too) then my mistake. I may well be moderator, but that doesn't mean I can't have an opinion and unforrtunately my opinion on this is that the country is obsessed with racism. We've gone absolutely mad about it and for some reason it's only certain races. You can say what you like about jews and laugh at their circumcisions, but if someone said the exact same thing about a muslim, who of course do the very same practice, you'd be a racist BNP ****. I just don't get it. Who does this help?
As a 70-year old, I find your comment extremely insulting. Mind you, reading most of your posts I don't expect anything else. I have travelled the world widely, so I AM NOT A RACIST. I judge people on their behaviour and their views and it would seem that we, as a race, leave a lot to be desired." Let him without sin cast the first stone".
