Although he has a fine four octave range, I still don't accept buying a gay Lebanese man as an acceptable strategy <soberingup> please log in to view this image
I actually like what I've seen of him so far , Saturday when our team to failed to turn up and last night when the opposition had the better of us, yet I still think he performed well . Wait to the team clicks against weaker opposition and we will all be singing his praises .
Must do better. Wasn't strong, wasn't quick, didn't keep the ball well or bring others into the game. Bangura the 2nd is what I dread, its all he's shown so far but early days yet.
This I think he looks like a right good player. Might not have shown much in the two games but the glimpses of what he can do are a cause for excitement in my book. He's a totally different proposition when compared to the strikers we had last season.
I find it hard to believe that some of the people berating here actually watched any of the match last night. I expect some of them who did were under some influence. We all know that Metu had poor service last night and it would be difficult to judge his ability on what happened. Launching him (to the moon or mars) after 60 minutes would hardly have helped. Those who were watching last night, may have noticed that Celtic were missing Kayal, Ledley, Sammy, the yong midfielder from the Czeh Rep. McCleogh and Stokes all or some or even one of could maybe helped to play the ball up to and in a manner that Metu would have enjoyed and could have benefitted. It was certainly no pre-plan of Lennon's to switch to heaving the ball up the field. Despite excellent performances from Brown and Victor despite the two of them often playing against four I thought they did a wonderful job. Disappointing games from Izzy and Forrest did not make our task easier. Remember all the sneering and laughing when N.L. was reported to be looking at a centre midfielder, I wonder why, we sell one and promote one from youths and now we are at least missing one.
Let's have a bit of perspective here. Has everyone forgotten Larsson's first few games for us? He was awful in some but how did he turn out? The last few games we've played to the same predictable system as if Sammy is still on the pitch, he's not...so change it to suit who is on the pitch. Miku did a few decent off the ball runs last night but the ball went square or backwards instead. Forrest was shackled for most of the game so maybe they should've tried him on the left wing for a bit to see if he got any joy there? It's all "if's and but's" though isn't it?
You guys are welcome to your opinion, i welcome it. However, for me, in our first home game, the win was there for the taking. It's all well and good referencing Benfica last season but they aren't the same team. That much is clear. Last night they were poor but still probaly edged it in terms of chances created. Nevertheless they could have been beaten, and probably should have been with home advantage. He had plenty of balls to win - half the time, as someone else mentioned, he didn't even jump. He just attempted to nudge defenders off their stride which was never going to happen given that CBs attacking hoofs up the pitch is their bread and butter defending. I know he's propably not one of your more physical players - Sutton/Hartson/JVoH - but given that service along the deck wasn't in abundance, i then expect him to throw what weight he does have about, and he didn't. I understand he's new, it's a different paced game here etc et al, but he wasn't doing well enough last night it justify getting 90 minutes. I blame Lennon just as much for leaving him on as I blame him for being so anonymous the entire game. Even when we went 4-4-2 we didn't look good going forward.
Are you serious!? So Lennon was right to persist with a system for almost 80 minutes, even though it CLEARLY wasn't working? Right, good one. Someitmes you'd do well to lose your green-tinted glasses SH. Nothing wrong with being critical of your own team and it certainly doesn't make any of us lesser fans. You then waffle about who was missing and how'd they would have helped!? THEY WEREN'T THERE, so why play Miku as a forward and just pump balls up to him???? I don't think Comons or Miku won a single header all night. Atmosphere was brilliant, but the eprformance was very average. By both teams.
I don't think anyone has said he's a dud or anything, so all you high horse sitting giving it the Larsson blah blah bullshite, just give an honest opinion of his 2 games and agree with me he was ****e
Probably needs game time to bed into the team, whether a cl match was the proper time is another matter. I agree with others that he should not be upfront on his own as he does not appear suited to that, then again long balls suit very few. A lot of ifs and buts, but far too early to judge him yet in my book.
Pretty much agree with this, but like everything else he must begin to show. Agree he is not an out and out target man and when he has someone playing alongside him, hopefully we will get a better indication of whether he will do a job for us or not. I thought Forrest had an off night and in the last 20 mins or so would have liked to have seen a bit of LASSAD. He looks like he can take a man on and beat him, however I would like to see if he can deliver a pass and a telling one at that.
Celtic's two worse players on the night were Izzy (who taken off) and Forrest who never seemed to get into the game but having said that with a little bit of twisting and turning in the penalty area he nearly won a penalty. Now I am not saying we were robbed of a penalty, but I think there was some contact and a little more could have got the penalty. To go on about someone at the start of their Celtic career is just rubbish, he has to get himself involved in the Celtic way and to be honest starting him up front on his own wasn't a good call but what other option had got.
I agree, he shouldn't have been played up there as lone striker and long balls did not suit him. Celtic ha very few options. No more fit centre midfielders, that mean't Commons had to drop back and help out as Benfica had 3 or 4 in centre midfielder. No other Celtic experienced striker fit. It would have been a big risk to play two new strikers up front together. So really we had few options.
Not sure that long balls are actually one of NLs ploys, I just don't think we have players at the back who can build up play and when they are pressurised as they were the other night they get rid off the ball ASAP. Wilson tried to play the ball out on one occasion and nearly made a mess of it. It is in these situations that I think we see the true value of Samaras.
