Haud fire there Harry. Pique will most likely be fit by the time that game comes around. Plus they might blood in the young CB they've got Bartra who is meant to be brilliant.
I'm rough as this morning. Eddie, Get that sig tae **** - it's gonnae make me spew. Fitba'? Oh aye, I thought Wilson had his best game ever for us - I notice folk generally gave Broon MOTM but I'd go for Kelvin, then Broon, then Commons, then Mulgrew, then Matthews, then Wanyama, then everyone else except Forrest. Naughty step time for the wee man. Broon in the second half was brilliant - but for him Benfica would've been even more comfortable on the baw and bossed it - stats on the scoreboard said at the end we had 53% possesion Didn't feel like it. I'm satisfied. I feared the worst and the players we really needed last night were brilliant (Broon, Victor, Wanyama). Didn't create enough - for that, I'd primarily point to Forrest and Miku (who gets excused slightly because he's only been here 5 mins) who, I think got about 6 touches all night. Eddie. Seriously man, sort out that sig.
The Benfica players were sick of looking at him by the end of that game. That's what Broony is all about; making a nuisance of himself and forcing their midfield to get rid of the ball because he's steaming towards them like a rabid dug.
On reflection, I agree with me. He got no joy because they handled him well. That is why he had a poor game imo. A lot to learn for him for sure. Lennon had a lot of wins tactically last night. That was one area he didn't win. Forrest did as Forrest does. Benfica just nullified him.
He personified the spirit the whole team needs to show if we're going to have any chance of playing in Europe beyond Christmas. I hope Celtic tell Levein to **** off if he tries to call him up for the Belgium and Wales games. We need him as fit as possible for these CL games. Celtic will be a different proposition when Ledley and Kayal are back too. I thought we missed Ledley more than Samaras or Stokes last night.
Forrest is falling down the same trap as McGeady ... Having no back up plan when he can't get past the last man and not having a good cross ball to play! He's only young but defo needs a coach to work with on this ... Alan Thompson????
I see Celtic have changed last night attendance to 57842 from the 53000 in the papers this morning . Was this to give Sevco empty seat watchers a lift after getting beat in the fish and chips cup ???
Dunno but it was weird the away fans being in the main stand. My mate was asked to move seats for the UCL games (he sits in front of the leather ones in the North Stand) - so he moved about 20 seats for corporate sponsors. Met him after the game and he said his seat, along with pretty much the whole row in that section was empty
Lots of tickets outside last night , some people maybe bought the package just to see Barcelona , crowd was nearer 58000 than 53000 though .
Check out this nerds: http://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsle...#1/2013/2000347/2009493/pitch-view/team-shape
that is some serious nerdosity, I especially laughed at the diagrams with the arrows and dotted lines.
That was actually my point... Who knows what actually went on between Celtic and Thompson but I think he is exactly the type of ex player (working as a coach) that could get Forrest to progress. Celtic haven't replaced Thompson (as far as I can see) and a coach who knows how to strike a ball, cross a ball or beat a player (not always relying on pace) would be of help for McGeouch/Forrest ....
I did too..... and I hate nerds. I think I am a lot like the super-hero Blade. He is part vampire and that helps him to hunt vampires. I am a small tiny part nerd and that helps me to hate them.......Knowing that about Blade makes me a small tiny bit more nerdish.
Pud, don't tell anybody, but between you and me, I think Lennon feels there is only going to be one person drinking excessively at Celtic Park. Anymore and the club will get a bad name. He pushed out O'Dea and other footballers who were over fond. Lennon 's happy to do the drinking for the club. Seriously, you could be right, I wondered on Wednesday night was Forrest not hugging the touch line too much. He, I thought would have been better if he was inside slipping passes to other players which would have built up his confidence. Maybe he was told to stick out on the line and keeping a defender or two out there, if that was the plan, maybe he did o/k for his team, sure we never know.
