Not you in particular, but all these 'Jobs for our boys' things that are always popping up in the Daily Mail and on Facebook make me wonder why a soldiers prospects are more important than anyone elses?

If you don't elaborate, I'm going to assume that you can't.

Cops aren't paid a lot for what they do. It's a very stressful job, and it's surely more important.

I'm not using it against all Liverpool fans. They never mention the Heysel Disaster, they didn't put anything on their badges to remeber those who diedat Heysel like they did with Hillsborough.

It's so sad that all those people died. Shocking :(.

My uncle is a policeman, all he does is walk round a certain area 2days a week, the other 3 he sits in a office. He is on 47k a year and can retire at 50. He will have a pension of just under 30k a year, come on how is that fair?.

Preventing crime is more important than lording it over the Middle East for no real reason.

Just because you don't agree with the war doesn't mean soldiers deserve not to have better pay.

The crux of my point is that his job is an absolutely essential one, and even though you make it sound like he does nothing, he certainly doesn't. Even a job as menial as pulling a car over puts a cop in a very precarious position. One enraged or unstable driver with a concealed weapon on the other side of that door could mean the end of the cop's life. Besides, the numbers you're quoting aren't even that high. He's earning a living similar to that of a teacher.

Reduce teachers' salaries and we won't have any teachers. The school I went to really struggled to find decent teachers for certain departments and I was taught by some proper morons. I believe education is the most important pillar of society and it shouldn't be compromised for anything. If teachers earned more then we'd have better teachers, leading to better educated citizens, leading to a more productive and prosperous nation, leading to more money to put into other things. It's a potential upward spiral that is largely ignored because it's a long term project, and governments are only interested in the short term. It's a major flaw of our system.

Translation: "I don't have the economic knowledge to form an opinion on what you said, so I actually have no idea if what you said was right or not. The "<doh>" I posted in response was unjustified and unsupportable and honestly I was just hoping you wouldn't call me on it."

You're very hard on our new star midfielder. Gomarchin has certainly honed a few people's argumentative skills. ;)

Joe lots of the young women in my family are primary school teachers and they are on nothing like 47k a year and the job is absolutely draining. Todays kids are a real handful. I have been invited in to schools to talk to the children about what it was like when I was a boy and the teachers have had to work hard to keep the children in order. Anyone who says teaching is a doddle should be forced to teach a year one class for a month.

Playing devils advocate on one thing , children appear never to be in school and teachers get at least 13 weeks off a year , 25% time off paid .
And people leaving school appear to be as thick as **** .

That's because it's too easy to get a good grade from schools these days. Subsequently, there are far too many university degrees on offer, which effectively devalues the meaning of obtaining one.
