What is this so-called "surveillance" that's keeping us all safe?

Neither North Korea nor Iran even have the capability of bombing us, and they don't actually want to either. North Korea is an extremely introverted nation that has no interest in the outside world, bar their beef with South Korea. Likewise, Iran is far more concerned about its neighbors, and has no desire to wage a war on a random country like ours.

Well you can't blame the soldiers for being ordered to do what they do, but there are some horror stories of soldiers acting disgracefully - for an extreme example, Abu Ghraib. But nah, it's not the fault of soldiers, but politicians on the whole. **** politicians. ****s.

No, because if people like you were in charge we'd all be slaves by now. We'd have no backbone.

<doh>...You don't understand. I'm not gonna bother to explain the importance of the army to someone who doesn't deserve to live in the UK.

Our missile defence system is separate from the army. The days of mass invasions are a thing of the past....our army is serving no purpose in Afgahnistan/Iraq etc.

Are we just talking about the British Army or the US Army or both? Because we're their allies and if you took away the American Army and British Army then countries would invade both of them.

Just thought of something. Argentina, they want to invade the Falklands again, they'd invade them if we didn't have an Army. You'll say "Oh but we've got a navy" it's the same thing, one is territorial other is maritime. Take away all this and the air force, because you wouldn't just take away the army and keep the other two, would you?All three units are composed of brave people.

Take away these people from the country and life would be a disaster.

You're so naive, I'm just going to leave it there as politics aren't meant to be discussed on here. But seriously....I can't tell if you're being serious.

I don't like wars, but if my country was in a big war similar to WWII then I'd gladly help in any way possible.

I have a question for you. If there was a big war going off and your country needed you, would you join the army and help?

Argentina don't want to invade the Falklands. Their president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner is outspoken on her beliefs that they should belong to Argentina, but that doesn't mean she wants to invade. Also, she has become very unpopular and there are protests breaking out all over the country. I met an Aussie guy in Amsterdam who now resides in Cordoba, Argentina and he's constantly posting about this stuff on Facebook.

Depends on the causes of the war. Not that I'd be much use, seeing as the next 'big' war would be fought with nuclear weapons.

A fittingly naive question. Would you not be concerned with the details of the conflict? Why is there a big war going off? Is it justified? Is the country in such a desperate state that it needs all able-bodied people to join the effort?

This is the main problem with people who hold your opinions. You ignore the details. You think everything can be summed up in a sentence.

There was a completely new series a couple of years back, IIRC. I watched a few bits of it, but it didn't have the magic ingredient that made Red Dwarf so bloody fantastic. I remember the first series, which was OK, and in the second series they were finding their real comedy feet, so to speak. Then they just took off, and some of the episodes vie for being some of the best situation comedy ever made, eg Gunmen of the Apocalypse, from series 6, which was, and still is fantastically funny, IMO. Also, I can't leave out that any episode involving Ace Rimmer and Dwayne Dibley is going to be super-funny too. Just a fabulous comedy series really.
