I hate to put a bit of a downer on Tuesday night. I had an immensely enjoyable night and it was a cracking result and atmosphere from our end. However to those four or five gentlemen who were chanting 'Galatasaray' and 'Sing your Gary Speed Song' and 'Gary Speed, he's a *****, he's a *****' how do I put this...? I'm truly ashamed to be associated with you. There is no place for that whatsoever in my view. It was thankfully limited to four blokes on one row who obviously knew each other and then one bloke on the row behind who didn't know them. Me and my mates and I'm pretty sure all the other people around wanted to say something and tell them to shut their ignorant little mouths. But of course none of us did. It was out of social awkwardness and perhaps cowardice to some degree and I regret not saying anything. Banter is fine, but as cliched as it sounds a line was crossed. The only positive was that it came from only 4 or 5 people out of 2000 and thus a tiny minority, but that doesn't excuse it. So I suppose this is an open apology to the Leeds fans and the city fans who had to hear it, unfortunately it isn't coming from the right people.
Well said. It's one thing to try and rile an opponent, but it's another to come out with stuff like that. Heaven forbid anything like that happen to our club or players, but if it did you can imagine the indignation if people didn't show respect. I hope no Leeds fans had to hear it.
there's some absolute tits that support our club... at charlton there was a bunch of morons that all looked like they belonged on the jeremy kyle show accompanied by 2 kids roughly 13 years of age or so and the singing wasn't as bad as that but still completely irrelevant and ******ed in a game vs a team we have no rivalry with, opposite fans that couldn't care less about us, in a 0-0 game... they started having a go at Leon cort and ended up using the word ****** to call him out and I just couldn't believe it really especially since our team isn't predominantly caucasian then they had a go (clearly getting bored) at a steward in front of us, who looked more mexican than muslim, yet they felt the need to chant something about a bomb underneath his poncho... I mean I know these people are clueless scumbags that should just hide away in shame but these songs have nothing to do with football. It's not banter it's just unprovoked verbal assault. I don't get how the stupidest people also seem to be the loudest.
Hull's biggest fixture, alcohol consumed, emotions running high - it's not really surprising that your fans were trying to gloat and wind up the locals a bit. Personally, I can't understand why someone would slander fellow Yorkshiremen who were murdered, defenceless, by Turkish cowards with knives as the Police stood by and let them bleed on the pavement. I tend to reserve that kind of unpleasantness for clubs who I think truly deserve it. But football fans will be football fans, and hatred is hatred. Some people think Speed's suicide was an act of cowardice. Some people think that because Leeds fans disrespected the **** flag and money of Turkey, our fans deserved to be stabbed. They're entitled to voice those opinions, no matter how silly they are. Four or five fans out of 2,000+? Forget about it. No need for an open apology. But if you feel so strongly about these things, act rather than just moaning afterwards. Football fans self-police.
There's football rivalry and then there's real life. The former should never overtake the later. At least these clowns aren't representative of our true support, I can only hope no Leeds fans heard these vile chants.
I agree, there was many people on here saying it's one of the least atmospheric games, but I thoroughly enjoyed the whole night. Apart from them morons who were chanting "Galatasary" about 5 rows behind me, you couldn't fault it. L**ds had no atmosphere whatsoever the miserable twats, but again, City put in another great performance. I'm starting to get more and more optimistic as games go on, but when that Final whistle went, it was a bloody great feeling.
Well said; I didn't hear that chant myself as we were too busy singing/chanting songs about City and I myself was in the upper tier; but it's a disgrace if people are singing songs like that. Sure we don't like Leeds but in those occasions football should come together as a community; just like it has with the Hillsborough accident. Other than that; our fans were absolutely fantastic on Tuesday night and if we have that support on Sunday at Leicester, that'll hopefully drive us to another 3 points and more bragging rights for me at uni . And I'm back at Leeds Met today; had some interesting looks off people with my "Hull City - The Tigers" bag; CAN NOT WAIT to see the Leeds fans in my group... muahaha.
If you hear stuff like that, you really should report it to a steward. I know that's easier said than done - but if the circumstances were different, and a few more idiots happened to be sitting near them, it could have been audible to others in the ground.
Good response and Im glad you didnt go down the houlier than thou route, cos if there's one set of fans.... I of course think about the disruption of Matt Busby's one minute silence live on national television and the countless occasions of Munich songs and accompanying aeroplane actions.
No sympathy for Leeds Fans ... Iv heard a few thousand of the **** heads singing that little song they invented taking the piss out of the Munich air crash in which half the Man United team died in ..
I was in the upper and I didn't hear it, but I find the best way to deal with such poor behaviour is simply to reason with the individuals concerned and point out the error of their ways. 'Shut up thick ****' normally does the trick.
Look at Gordon Strachan's face 40 seconds in.
Not defending the ****s taking the piss out of GS or the murdered Leeds fan of course .. * Suicide is tragic as is any one being stabbed to death...
Agreed. Whoever it was is ****ing disgrace and an embarrassment to the club. As for the comments about 'do something about it at the time instead of moaning about it afterwards' ???
