i disagree. We are the 4th ranked team in the group. They will realistically be aiming for 2nd. They'd all be looking to take 6 points off us. I think they'll be disappointed at creating so little.
. And we didn't trouble them all night, we are an absolute joke of a club, I saw you slag off a sheep today & the fact is Scottish fitba joke. For the size of our club we have only won seven more league titles in the last thirty years than Aberdeen , not good enough in my book. You also slagged their manager as a joke, I honestly think we have a worse manager with the resources at hand. Also since when did you become the Celtic board polis and tell people where and when they can post, you are an embarrassment to the Celtic fans!!!!
Really, the 2nd best team in Portugal - you're happy they didn't get all 3 at Parkhead? We've had a fall from grace no doubt, but the above expectations would weigh very heavy on my heart if it was a truth I had to accept.
Yeah. I am fairly satisfied with that. From looking at a few sites the reaction seems to be split between satisfaction and disgust. I can see both takes on it but really and truly I was expecting the worst and I got a lot better than that. I would obviously have liked to create a bit more but I think they will feel the same. The Second best team in Portugal were unbeaten in their group last year and qualified top. They made it to the quarter finals. They have lost a couple of big players in the meantime but even so, they should have created more than that against a team with very little CL experience and extremely depleted. The realist in me tells me that we are not going to win the group. The optimist in me says there is a chance we can get 2nd.....The realist says that 3rd is a very good return and the pessimist says 4th is the most likely spot. If I were a Benfica fan I would think that our main rivals for 2nd spot will be Moscow. I'd think that taking anything from Barca is a bonus and I would be targeting 6 points from the 4th ranked side. And Moscow will be thinking the same. I imagine that Moscow would be delighted that Benfica didn't beat us. We lost the next Gen game 2-1.Irvine got the goal for the junior hoops.
Heavy on your heart and reality check for you as it may be Mick, I think Reb has got it spot on. I feared for our inexperience and the fact that we are lacking in firepower to score goals, before the match but thought, overall, we did ok. We are, however, now really up against it in the remaining games. Honestly? I think we did well to qualify and any respectable results we can get in the group will be a bonus. I was reasonably content with every one of our players' performances except that of young James Forrest - he goes to ground too easily and doesn't work hard enough for my liking, at the moment, so someone needs to sort him out otherwise he's in danger of wasting his undoubted talent.
Amazing everybody on the bus slated Forrest after the game , everybody on forums slated him as well, most of the papers give him the lowest marking YET the opposition manager thought he was our best player !!!!!who said football was a funny game
Yes, it's astounding that someone has a different opinion about something, I am totally flabbergasted and shocked.
Forrest was poor imo, as bad as I've seen him play. Never beat a man once, fell over and lost possession all too regularly, blatant dive for a pen etc etc. Izzy was a bombscare. But ... otherwise I was pretty satisfied. Mulgrew and Brown were best players for me, with Commons next best. Wanyama did alright first half but was on shaky ground with that yellow card. Centre-halfs (all 3) did pretty well and Matthews was his usual steady self, albeit Benfica didn't put them under too much pressure. I predicted 2 points from this group, this being one of the draws I thought we should get. Benfica weren't absolute top class but considering it was a first ever CL game for 10 of the starting 11, I thought they equipped themselves not too badly. As ever, atmosphere was great. The noise when the CL theme was played was just fantastic.
Miku was ****ing ****e. How he got 90 minutes is beyond me. Didn't win one header all night. We really miss George. Big Vic and Broony were brilliant, Forster too. Izzy's a timebomb at the minute. Made me **** myself every time he got the ball last night. I think last night, all in all, it was a fair result. The dissatisfaction is in not getting one shot on target. That's an awful statistic in our opeing CL game at home. I suppose a plus point is in the squad gaining experience whilst not getting pumped. Doesn't bode well for our next 2 games though.
Not the first choice 11 Players playing out of posistion 1 player with Champs Leg experience A young squad A striker making his home debut A draw against last years beaten quarter finalists (beaten by the eventual winners). A point you say ... a ****in great result! Well done Bhoys ....
Forster - solid game apart from flap that nearly cost a penalty Matthews - good game Lustig - Hmmm. Did OK but stil not convinced. Wilson - not bad. Looks dodgy on the LHS but did well. Izzy - should have bene hooked at half time. Terrible. Broony - Man of the match. Brilliant. Wanyama - close second to Broony Mulgrew - clsoe third behind Broony Commons- hit n miss. Wasted a few balls. Forrest - poor. Miku - good home debut. Did well. Never a lone striker tho. Improved when Hooper came on. Hooper - good movement.
This Good assessment Pud. It could have been a lot better but also could have been a lot worse. 1st game over with, the next two games are the real test.
Barcelona have a real problem at centre of defence, two midfielders playing there at the moment , Redknapp and Souness said the better sides will take advantage of it . Can see Samaras running riot in the neu Camp !!!!
