Change of topic here. After a six month sabbatical after being made redundant I finally rejoin the rat-race next Monday, but my new job requires me to wear a suit. No problem, I thought, I've got two that have been bagged up in a wardrobe for six or seven years, however, my once svelt frame that once boasted a 29 inch waist (in the 70s) has gone to pot (as in pot belly), buttons that once fastened easily are stretched to unworkable limits. Reluctantly, I went to various shops today to try new suits for size. Forget Slim-fit or tailored fit, I tried one on that was one size bigger than my last suit and there was at least three inches between button and hole when I tried to fasten it. Christ, I thought, how big is this jacket gonna be? Eventually I found a 'regular fit' jacket that at two sizes bigger than my last one was just right. It's a horrible feeling when you realise that your body just ain't what it used to be as well as not being capable of doing what you used to do...
To all those people who said I would grow up to taller and thinner than my father: If only you could see me now ! (shouldn't be hard) Best of luck Sooper.
Good luck Sooper Try a app called My fitness Pal if you have a smart phone ... Working for me and addictive ... After my last match I also realized I needed to change as the head said yes and the legs said no Made my mind up I will play again as a long time dead . Swim if you are large as running etc is no good if you carrying weight I do average 2k swim 10k bike and 5k run each day and I feel epic Get in there my son ... Do it
Whilst I agree with the Uber regime of trying to control your uber-ness (reckon most of us know the effects of a de-fatted lettuce leaf, AND the boredom of the long distance runner!), age and family shape ultimately determine bodily destiny. Does it really matter whether we're big or small in our middle years? After all, what's normal? That's the luxury we should be enjoying as men. The fact that it shouldn't matter at all. We can be fat, skinny, bald and/or ugly and still get through most days without adverse comment. Just don't look in the mirror! Conversely, far too much pressure on our women-folk though. They really get a rough deal in this department, as they stumble through their seven ages, involuntarily transforming into and out of the belle of the ball stage to the helpless inevitability of everything tumbling south! And having to field the uninvited judgements of every numpty on the planet (heated male and bitchy female) at every turn. Doubt you got that job for your looks Sooper. Thank God for small (or large) mercies eh? Best of luck mate. I'm sure you'll make the most of what's coming your way.
Wow Brixton....you really have hit the nail on the head from a women's point of view... What hasn't gone south on me is definitely gone far east and far west.... But far more important than actual body size Sooper is health. You don't have to be skinny to be healthy....if you are still active and busy...maybe the weight is inevitable with increasing age...it comes to us all. So with the new job, which will probably make you more active, and don't forget to eat healthily and try not to stress...stress is the real killer. And don't forget real women like real men they can cuddle upto. Good luck sooper with the new job
Thanks for all your good wishes folks, really looking forward to it. I'll just have to gently lose a pound or two...
