Obviously it was a team performance last night and is unfair to single anyone out but I'm still going to do it anyway.... is this Jay Simpson really the same meek, scared, shadow of a striker we saw under both NP and Nick? It literally is like we had a different player terrorising the whole TWS back-line last night with and without the ball. Im an unashamed NP fan but I'm not afraid to pay huge respect to Bruce for clearly managing him much, much better. I get the feeling NP didnt have time for individuals and instead managed the group. Whatever the reasons, Jay was exceptional last night and although he may still have plenty to prove and a few good games might be getting carried away but, if Im correct in believing his contract is up next season, we'd do well to consider moving quickly to sign him up longer term cos if we don't you can guarantee someone else will.
He was great last night, we definitely shouldn't risk losing him on a free in the summer, we should try and tie him up before January.
Agreed. Jay seems happy here now and is definitely playing to his potential. I've always been a Jay Simpson even before he came here, and it's brilliant to see him finally doing what he does best!
Has Jay finally found a manager to play under that he likes and finally becoming the player we thought he could be
Agreed. He's a very good player and it seems ridiculous that it's taken so long for him to get a run in the team - despite that every time he got a chance previously he looked really good and then didn't plau for 3 months. I know Barmby had some issues with him refusing to play certain positions, but what was NP's problem? Like BCC I'm a big fan of the work NP did here but I don't think he managed his strikers well at all. I don't think he got value for the £2.5m he spent on Fryatt and McLean, he dropped Simpson when he was finally setlling in and playing well and then never gave him another chance the following season and farmed him out on loan, while Fryatt and McLean were hardly tearing up any trees and Adebola wasn't playing either.
It's great to see Jay performing to his full potential, credit to Bruce for getting the best out of him. I think he's shown enough this season to warrant an extended contract.
As with Faye, I don't think any contracts will be extended until the new year but they are both key players in our starting 11 at the minute so contract extensions will happen I would have thought, especially Simpson as he is still young (providing he wants to stay)
