Sunderland defender eyeing new contract Date: 19th September 2012 at 10:52 am Written by James Lowson | Comments (0) Sunderland defender Titus Bramble is hoping to earn a new contract on Wearside. The 31 year old is out of contract in the summer but believes he can extend his future at the club if he stays fit and in form. Bramble made his first Premier League appearance this term against Liverpool, replacing an injured Carlos Cuellar, showing he still has a place with the Black Cats. Bramble told The Journal: âItâs still something Iâm interested in. If Iâm playing in games I donât see why I wonât get offered a new contract. Of course I want to stay. Iâm very happy up here and I would love to stay. âThis season I can just get my head down and focus on football â nothing else, which is the main thing. The challenge for me is to play as many games as possible because weâve got four or five centre-halves and four of them are over 30. âI donât think any of us will play a full season â thatâs just nature. The youngest [Matthew Kilgallon] who is 27 or 28. So competition for places is going to be tough, but thatâs what all big clubs need.â
no thanks with Kilgallon and Bramble both entering the last year of there contracts and am fairly certain that in 12months time both of them won't be at SAFC. Bramble has certainly not helped himself so far this season, he looks miles overweight and was poor IMO when he came on, don't have a clue what he was doing for there goal even I would of sorted out my feet and got that ball away from our goal and I am being serious! With MoN and Short taking us in the right direction and improving us the right way with 4 or 5 quality signings per summer rather than a squad overhaul I think a top quality centre half that has a good few years infront of them with be high on the list next summer (esp. with our main CB's Brown, Cuellar and JoS all kicking on) and that will spell the end for both Bramble and Killa
I think Killa has good grounds for feeling slightly aggrieved, Poolie. How on earth Bramble got the nod before him on the subs bench the other day is beyond me. I actually texted a few kopite mates at half time when he came on and said that Bramble would be a liability and I wasnt bloody wrong !!!..Personally though Id persevere with Killa..on his day he is top notch
yer mate I agree I like Killa but cannot see him becoming a first team regular and as we are looking to improve and the two young lads Laing and Egan getting better all the time I think its going to be hard for Killa to get a new contract and he should of been brought on for Cuellar at half time, my heart sunk when I seen Bramble come on. JoS, Cuellar and Brown are good players and our best 3 CB's but there not reliable in terms of playing every game with there age and there injury records and thats why I think a quality centre back of a good age 23-27 will be brought in next summer to go straight in and play 30 odd games for us, we have seen over the past couple of years we have changed our back 4 esp the cb's pretty much everyweek but the times when it was the same for 4 or 5games we started to look alright, you cannot do that and expect that fro JoS, Cuellar and Brown IMO. the summer transfer has only just shut but MoN and the backroom staff will already be out there looking at what we need next and MoN's SAFC is certainly a work in progress, over the next 12months we need another 4 maybe 5 quality players brought in and CB is one of them IMO because of the reason's I have stated above.
Yep you make some great points there Poolie, I forgot about the ongoing development of young Laing and Egan...incidently we havent loaned them out this season have we ???
We need better than both Bramble and Kilgallon imo moving forward and need some defenders with a bit of pace. Danny Rose is young but has made a good first impression for me. That said neither Bramble or Killa are bad players and if they stayed I wouldnt be too upset.
don't think we have yet but has the emergency loan window opened yet? Its around this time probably in the next 10days or so From what I seen in the pre season game against Hartlepool Laing looked twice the player of Bramble, in 2 or 3years time this lad will be in our first team setup, I have not seen Egan play but apparently MoN rates him higher, with JoS and Brown coming to the end of there careers (surely only got 3 or 4years left at the top max) I think these two young lads will be there long term replacements.
I work with a Palace supporter who stated that she was very impressed with Egan down there last season (mind you Iam not sure he even played a first team game for them !) unless she was watching him in their reserves
LOL...mate its a nightmore..I work with a palace and a Charlton supporter, its bloody hard enough trying to undertsand what they saying at the best of times..never mind all the scousers
has been fairly consistent for us, last weekend excepted. Would need to take a big pay cut to stay on.
We should get shot of Bramble, and look to the future with the younger lads.Bramble is too slow in mind and body.I said to my grandson when Titus came on that he is a liablity and would cost us the game.It was annoying to be proved right!!
i like kilgallon and wouldn't be too sad to see him remain as a squad player. i don't think bramble is good enough and would like to see him gone - he's gonna be on good money and to be honest we could do without the extra curricular attention he brings. i think brown, o shea and cuellar are all good enough for where we want to be, but all three are the wrong side of thirty and spend too long on the treatment table - i think a quality centre half will be bought next summer.
Ability-wise Bramble always looked like he was going to be a great defender but at Newcastle we waited years for him to learn how to concentrate for a full 90 minutes and make better decisions generally. He's unfortunately brainless (with both his on and off the pitch actions), which is a shame because i genuinely think he could have been an England player if he had progressed his tactical thinking.
Talking of quality centre halves, did anyone see Kompany duck out of the way of the ball for RM's winner? WTF was that all about? Surely hid didn't get a shout from Hart seeing as what happened afterwards.
Still can't believe we're paying the best part of 30k a week to Bramble. He is an accident waiting to happen every time he plays for us. He was even at fault in our pre season game against Pools, getting out muscled off Steve Howard and letting him score!! Laing looks quality, but physically he's still got a long way to go before he's ready for the Prem. the same goes with Egan!
