We are all Saints fans no matter how many times we get to go see them. I have been lucky, had a season ticket until i was 18 and went to every game bar 3 in the last two seasons. I am now a season ticket holder again, but some people can't afford to go to every game or even any. But they're all still Saints fans.
Look...if we get rid of nigel adkins and get in this big time manager what will happen if we get relegated...will it be a case of harry redknapp jumping ship from us because we got relegated and moving to portsmouth as they were in the premier league. I much rather stick with a manager who suits our philosphy of up and coming talent because thats what he is! Nigel adkins is with us because he loves southampton...benitez would only be with us because we are a premier league club not because he loves the club!
I want to know what a Southampton plastic exactly is ? Is it when they come out and support after a run of results , I dont applaud that but its called human nature and lets be honest we are not exactly Man City , Liverpool , United , Chelsea , Arsenal , Spurs , Villa , Newcastle etc etc , I would love to be a plastic and glory hunter for Southampton I would love to see glory hunters all over the World wearing Saints shirts !
The point i'm making is that I don't believe that Nicola Cortese is foolish enough to throw away all the good work of the last 2 years, there is absolutely no guarantee that a big name manager will do a better job than NA especially without him having the opportunity to work with those players that cost £30 million, that is too much of a gamble at this stage.
So if Adkins does well in the Premiership you would expect him to stay if Liverpool came knocking on the door ?
£30 Million is a drop in the ocean to get a premiership squad , sorry but true , we have some premiership from the championship but did not buy enough in the summer . Speculations buys I think they are called .
when we started badly in our first ever season at st marys we lost a few on the trot. Strachan was appointed and the first thing he did was get some defenders in on loan. we went on to finish top half of the table. we need to sort the defence out, its light weight, just not good enough.
I read that we were the 7th highest spending club in europe in the summer transfer window. We broke the club transfer record twice but there has to be a limit on spending at some point, we are not Man Citeh or Chelsea.
Being the club that spends the 7th most in Europe is one crap stat with respect , its how much you spend and who you spend it on .
In my mind, someone who hasn't given 2 ****s about us the last few years, now suddenly we're in the Prem, the shirts are out, season tickets have been ordered etc People who have gone off supporting United, Chelski etc over the past few years, not giving 2 ****s about us
With respect, we can't really judge if we have spent unwisely until all of the players signed have been fully integrated and have played a few games in the team. Ramirez could turn out to be the next Messi for all we know.
I think that's true in net spending, ie Tottenham spent more than us but we are above them because they raked in £50m for Modric/Van Der Vaart and others, and we didn't make more than a couple of million selling players. But that was necessary to bring our squad up to Premier League standard, I would be surprised if we spend that much again in the next five years.
And I would be made up but he would then be sold straight away , I always thought our intention was to challenge for Europe , you dont do that by buying a couple of players unless you have absolute confidence in your current squad , I dont as they are not top 10 premiership players let alone European ones .
Our squad is not premiership standard hence all these rumours concerning Adkins future , if Cortese thinks £30 million is a lot of money for the premierleague he is truly mistaken .
No such thing as plastics, who are we to judge others. Is it because most people like to make out they're better then other people, so use anything to do so.
Have a look at this and also others clubs http://www.transferleague.co.uk/football-transfers/southampton-transfers.html
IF he is sold, it would be for a substantial fee, higher than we paid for him. I don't believe that Nicola Cortese demands challenging for Europe in the first season back, everything that is happening at the club is laying foundations for the long term, that is why there is investment in the Academy and why we are buying young, talented players before their prime. Most fans are realistic enough to see this vision and do not expect too much from this season but do expect to be a top ten team in the years to come.
you are correct...he probably would go to liverpool! I think we should just stick with Adkins..we have all to easily chopped and changed managers too quickly in the past i.e like the relegation season of 2004-2005!...and look how that ended..i just hope we have learnt from it!
