He is class, didn't we sign him until the end of this current season? On the basis of what I've seen I'd definitely be offering him an additional 12 months. Simply outstanding.
He's been awesome for us, but I think for a player on a 1 year deal it's a bit early to be offering another contract. When was the last time/have we ever had a centre half score 3 games in a row?
The Hammers fans I work with all said he was a great player for them, in this league and they all liked him. They also all say they don't think he can step up to the PL hence why they let him go, although they all seem genuinely pleased he's doing well for us.
He was fantastic when he walked off, applauding all the fans and waving his arms in a 'keep it going' motion(Geo-style).
He's not old by centre half standards. I haven't seen anything to suggest we shouldn't be offering him another year. Even if we do get promoted - he's experienced, and could be a great squad player. His use of the ball is excellent...
This guy is terrific - I've been watching replays via tigersplayer and listening to live audio. Listened to his interview with Burnsey - what a treat. I also liked the impromptu interruption from Rosie, it sounds like a real happy outfit at the KC. Hard not to be excited isn't it?
He's going to be 35 by the end of this season, other than David Weir I can't think of many PL centre halves in recent years that have been older. It shouldn't be too much of an issue with him though, if we were to go up and stick to a back 5 you'd have him and Hobbs picking up the attackers and then have Chester free to cover when they were done for pace and to receive a simple pass when they won the ball.
I'd say the same for any player we've signed on a 1 year contract. Clearly his ability isn't a problem, he's a quality player but IMO it should be Christmas before we start talking about a new deal for him.
