Didn't realise this show was still on. Watched one from another series and it highlights there's some absolute ******s in our City.

Although, they could film it anywhere, in any city and have the same problem.

I do agree, but when you are an exhile like me, you tend to paint Hull in rosy colours.

I had to visit Peterborough a couple of weeks ago, I was shocked at what I saw, on the same trip I ended up at home (Hull) and it did not seem as bad.

My post was a reaction. I really am proud to be from Hull and City doing well highlights that. I have City sign on my gate and stickers on my car. It is hard to defend Hull with programs like that. You are right of course, it could be any town or city in the country and the result would be the same. But it is still cringworthy.

I used to go to school with that lad caught pissing in the street.

    He was mental then.

It is about time the council started denying these TV companies access to facilities in the city. Remember that programme with that prat who used to be anchorman for Calendar who is now MP for Grimsby

Gol is right, they do these based in London, Manchester, Glasgow, even places like Hunstanton so it's not particularly showing Hull up, these muppets are everywhere. I watched this last night, and tbh was mostly impressed with the attitude of the coppers in there, it's not often you see them in these shows staying so calm and seeming to want to help the cretins they deal with.

The one I saw with coppers in Sunny Hunny had one female copper who got the right hump with someone for calling her love, and he hadn't actually done anything wrong other than legging it when they tried to talk to him lol. His biggest mistake was calling her love though!

There's a similar program about cops in Blackpool on at the minute.

Proper scumbags on there too. We all have our feral element.

Party, that lad, he's a dad and a step dad he said. I like to see the good in people, and hope they can turn themselves around, and he, on the show at least, seemed to want to. Is he likely to? I hope so.

Oh and the seaside ones have the worst ones in, how the coppers put up with it is beyond me, it's like teachers, I end up slapping some gobshite for sure.

Like has been said if a camera crew went into a custody suite anywhere in the country the result would be the same.
The majority of 'clients' seen on this programme are the dregs of society and anyone with half a brain would realise that you aren't going to see many decent folk in there.
Violent piss heads in Chelsea and Westminster I dare say behave the same as they do in Hull.

Saying that why is it always Hull?

What I really love are the comments at the start of the programme.

' One in ten people in Hull suffers from addiction'

' The average business pays out £30,000 a year due to criminal activity'

Might not be the exact quotes but that's the gist of what the narrator said on the two programmes I've seen.

I don't know where those figures came from but they sound like a load of old pony to me.

It's the same old same old Carmine, they do that for all the places they cover, and because they DO cover a lot of places noone watches that show and thinks Hull's a ****hole because of it. Like I said, anyone watching it would mostly think about the way the coppers tried to help people stop being twats. They definetly came over better than a lot of other forces.

Because it's our city, it feels embarassing, but it's a reflection of society across all these Isles as a whole.

I am surprised this thread is still open! Were the moderators born in 1984? It seems okay to call someone a ****, but not okay to have a very topical and harmless discussion.

I can certainly see your point and don't altogether disagree.

The difference as I see it (and I'm happy to discuss it) is that this thread has a local context, is about a general underclass in society, how the media portray them and how people then perceive the area in question. It can, but doesn't tend to, result in politics or religion and these threads don't tend to spiral into personal abuse. If it does, it will be closed.

The other thread, as reasonable as it was up to the point of closure, was political and in my opinion would also soon include religion. These are the two main topics that have generally caused threads to fall into abuse and for this abuse to fester causing further problems and the topics posters decided should be avoided.

There are other boards to discuss politics.

That's my perspective, largely based on the experience of other threads and requests from posters.

Im gonna throw in my support for DMD here. I was pleasantly surprised by how reasonable the other thread was going, but it was only a matter of time before it turned bad sadly, and yeah, there's other places to discuss that. Im sure he's keeping a beady eye on this one too.

    Mel,

I currently live in Peterborough and would be interested to know where you went. Do not worry, I am not going to be defending it, just interested as I have not seen anything specifically worse than anywhere else. I have lived in a few places in recent years and in any city of a decent size there are going to be idiots.

There was a really funny one a couple of weeks ago, there was a really posh kid, who was so pissed he couldn't remember his name or date of birth.

Say anything ****ty to the police in those days and you would be sure to ' fall over and bang your head ' on the floor .. I would hate to be a plod in this day and age having to take so much **** from everyone ..

One of my favorite programmes, reminds me of my younger days waking up in a cell god knows where and walking out with a bail sheet in my back pocket.
Stumbled across the programme by accident a while back thought it was a documentary on the Hull Travelodge<ok>

Typical Hull response - it doesn't show Hull up in any more a poor light than elsehwere other than illustrationg that these ******s exist in any town or city in this country these days.

There have been similar programmes filmed in seemingly wealthy Cambridge and Reading and I am sure the same insular people that think everything bad about Hull probably can't even remember that these same intics give other places a bad name.

The only exception to that seems to be the one that follows the police in Blackpool.

It seems that everyone who lives there and everyone who goes there on holiday, is a mentally deficient chav.
