Listening to half wit, don't know his name ex rfc, on Clyde pouring sympathy out to ex rfc players and managers who might lose medals etc if titles and trophies are stilled, yet he totally ignore the rights of those, who entered a competition, which they believed was on a level playing field, only to find that the second biggest club in Scotland at that time, with all the advantages that bestows, had cheated as well. Why are the rights of the fans, who spent hard earned cash on tickets, expecting a fair play competition, the players, who might only once in their career ever have reached a final, their families who must have had great pride in their achievement, WHY ARE THEIR RIGHTS OF LESS IMPORTANCE ???
To be fair the players were told it was okay to sign the second contracts and everything was above board. (Traynor look away now) It was all Murray's fault.
Makes no difference if an athlete is told by his doctor or trainer that it is okay to take a supplement and then is found to have used a banned substance, s/he still loses the medals and the record in the history books. Find it hard to believe that any sensible person does not ask why they are paying so little in tax.
All people and companies look to pay as little tax as possible. It was no surprise Celtic posted a 7m loss today to avoid capital gains tax.
Pretty much exactly that. They knew they were avoiding tax....they just didn't know they were evading it. When I found out that Neil Lennon was availing of a tax avoidance schemei was disappointed in him but not surprised. it suits these people to pretend to be "like me and you"..........but they ain't.
That's interesting Reb - most people I know would like to pay less tax and as far as I know, if they could, they would. I have never been in the position where I could avoid it but I doubt if there is anyone who was given cash for a job - be it simply helping out or as a reward for something in some way - who has written to the tax authorities to ask how much tax they should hand over ... then again maybe I know only these sort of people!
I would dodge tax if I could, likewise I would like to be parking illegally, or speeding in my car, which I have done before (parking illegally and speeding that is), but when I got caught and fined I accepted it because it was my fault, I took the gamble and lost so I had no real complaint. But what I did not do was whine and bitch and blame other people for my actions, nor did I call into question the motives of the Police or Traffic wardens. I understood that they were not out to get me, and even when I received a parking ticket 3 weeks after getting a speeding fine and 3 points on my license I did not accuse the Traffic Warden of kicking me when I was down. Nor did I accuse Strathclyde Police or Glasgow Council of indulging in a Witch Hunt, likewise I did not demand to know who took the decision to focus the speeding gun on me, or check my parking ticket.
If I could pay less tax I would... Tax money in the UK is wasted by the Goverment! Thankfully I'm not in the higher tax bracket as that would really piss me off! Bank account on Guernsey/Jersey - yes please (is that still an option?)
Each to their own but I would certainly hope that high earners, especially those who earn a living of the support if the working class, would at least consider not availing of the breaks available. i was waiting for that Lennon story to break for a long long time. I want to know why he, and others, think it is ok to pay less tax than everyone else. I know what the answers are "my agent/advisor took care of it all for me. I didn't really know what was happening". They didn't give a **** as long as they saw more money at the end of it. Same for Jimmy Carr. Lawful acts but morally I think it deplorable.
I dont earn megabucks at all but I was paid the last few years through a ltd company which meant I got tax relief to compensate me for travel and food expenses. I picked up an extra few quid an hour doing it this way. Eu law and hmrc approve of it
What Lennon did was different to that and was specifically designed for high earners. I was disappointed when I found out about it but over the years since then I have become rather less disappointed and rather more aware of the reality that high earners don't give a ****.
Exactly ... but then again that's what it is to not be one of the people who have seen the machinations of 'the system' generally work for them until now, when they have been caught out by their own stupidity and blame their misfortunes on an imagined cabal who are out to destroy them.
You appear to be a man of principle Reb but alas the reality was always thus and I would have thought you would have known it to be so. Another verse from Southwell which may apply/appeal to you perhaps? My conscience is my crown; Contented thoughts my rest; My heart is happy in itself; My bliss is in my breast.
Yes, I suppose I did always know but I had a huge blind spot for the "Celtic thing" I suppose I still do. Not the famed "green tinted specs" rather that I hold "us" to more exacting standards. I know I shouldn't but I do it, It makes no sense...But at least I am aware of it. I expect "us" to do the "right thing" and I expect a grunt from a pig. I have always been like that. Even as a child. I distinctly remember feeling let down by people who I would expect better from for no other reason than they were wearing Irish and Celtic gear. I must have been 7 at the time. That Robert Southwell verse is from the same poem as mine. A very apt passage to cite and a very appropriate thread to raise it in. Southwell came from a fairly rich family but that did not prevent him from doing right by everyone else.
How the hell do you know that.? How can you get inside the minds of Dermot Desmond Peter Lawwell and the restof the board. Iam sure you, are at best surmising and at worse peddling a stupid line to make people think you might have a brain. I find it difficult to accept people posting, as if they knew and had the facts. Of course people pay as little tax as is legally possibly, and HMRC are continuously seeing that the rules are a changing in order to make sure they do. The reason Celtic showed a £7m loss over the accounting period is because that is the amount they lost.
I was in that position once when I worked some of the time in the Isle of Man and some of the time in the wee unfortunate six. I was given choices where I could pay my taxes and I chose to continue in the wee unfortunate six as at that time my family were been educated by the Queen's money and I didn't want to be seen ungrateful. It wasn't any love of Queen or Hector but I thought it was the right thing to do. Neil Lennon I am not sure seen his investment as avoiding tax, I may be wrong but I think he saw it as using his money to get a bigger return. I would think the tax aspect was low down in the priorities of the man who explained it to him and in Neil Lennon's queries about it. Tax is often an individual thing but when a Company sets up a scheme to ensure either 55 or 77 people don't pay the income tax and National Insurance that they should then it must be wrong. Footballers from the lat 1990's on are said to be more intelligent than their predecessors and they knew that Rangers were not Saints and Scholars, they should have known and would have known if they had listened to the Celtic fans that Rangers were ran by cheats and con-men. They didn't join Rangers for the weather, so they should have known what they were getting into.
