    Maritimo v Newcastle United
    Thursday 20th September 2012

    Kick Off 6pm GMT

    Live on ESPN

    Squad
HBA serves his final match of his ban.
    News is awaited of Tiote.

    Betting
Toon are 15/8 to beat Maritime with PP

Other selected bets I've picked are:
    Campbell FGS & Toon win 2-1- 45/1
    Sammy FGS & Toon win 1-0 - 50/1
    Haris FGS & Draw 1-1 - 45/1

    ACS's Prediction
After a very strong second half last night I can see the whole squad buzzing now. we have the momentum going into Thursday and I simply can't see us getting beat. No disrespect to Maritimo but we should be going into this game thinking.... 'start by not conceding and build from there'.
Things are looking up for us at the moment with a hunger and sharpness evident. With this in mind I'm going for 2-1 to the Toon with either Campbell or Haris opening the scoring.
How are you seeing things pan out?

    I'd personally play -

    ----Shola---Cisse-----

    Marv-----------Obertan

    -----Bigi--Jonas------

    Fergie-Perch-Willo--Anita

    --------Harper---------

I'd play this to start, then switch to 4-3-3 if we're struggling to provide threat. We seem to be good at changing formation and causing teams troubles with different styles.

All I know about Maritimo, is that they're like the Everton of Portugal. Very well organised, and good threat.

I think we should play patiently into the game, play the long balls with Shola knocking down for Cisse, Marv and Obertan. (Ignore rumours about refusal to go on, we should just keep this sort of **** low).

A draw would be a good result to take back to tyneside.

With our injuries at the moment i cant even see us starting with this many first teamers. Certainly a draw wouldnt be a bad result for us but i see a fired up Shola - Sammi win for us.

N.B. I also see us winning every cup we play for every season so dont place your bets on my hopes ha ha

Attach this to the Maritimo thread?

Had a bit of a struggle there but the best I could do to keep the headline info in the same place was to merge the few posts into the one from Tash.
Best I can do I'm afraid.
keeps things nice and tidy tho.. good shout..

I hope Campbell and Shola will start.
A good 'little and large' combo.

If Cisse's up to it, definite start with Shola - the lad needs a goal, right? Don't know enough about the Portuguese, but I would try and protect Santon and Saylor, but would probably go with

Harper, Anita, Tavernier, Willo, Fergie, Obertan, Perch, Vuckic, Marv, Shola, Cisse.

Bit like the "diamond" type thing we ended up with, though with Obertan taking up more of the Benny role, Vuckic playing up a little more. I don't think we should fear them, and we have options if we need to switch it up (Campbell, Ba) or switch it down (Bigi, Jonas). Only possible difference is whether it's worth playing Jonas instead of Marv from the start, just for leadership.

    That team would get decimated.

We're not playing an Atrimitos style team this time. They're a good team in the Portuguese league.

We need to field a semi-strong side.

Will Xisco get a run out on Thursday, or should I just keep that idea to myself?

    Oh.

My thinking was it'd be a good way to get him back in to the team seeing as he's with us for the duration.

Whatever it is that he's got may be infectious and spread to other players.

It's a fairly strong front three.

Tav is the only dodgy defender.

Bigi can do a job. Gosling does give me pause.

Throw in Anitas either at RB or midfield and I would exoect it to cope
