Appleton has decided to let clifford return to chelsea today, good decision in my opinion, didn't really do that well, (although i recognise he wasn't really given a chance) we also seem to have too many CM's compared to other positions. Kevin Long is also set to leave depending on his injury. We would need a replacement for long (would like to see connolly back) and definitely another striker for competition especially for Mcleod! Also has anyone else noticed that Mcleod is a bit of a dave kitson??? He loves to drift out wide when we have a perfect opportunity to cross the ball into the box, being our only aerial threat i find this frustrating!
Listening to the Pompey hour on Express FM tonight, apparently McLeod and his family got a lot of abuse (on the internet) from Pompey fans before the match on Saturday. Is this really how we need to treat our players? Last year, in league 2, he seemed to average a goal every 2 games or so - a total of 18 in 44 games. Better than we've had for a while. We need to give them time as a team to get it together.
Interesting comments, 3rd eye. The player doesn't deserve that - he is trying his best, and I am sure the goals will come. He and Rodgers play well enough together, but as you say they still need time to gel. They have only had a few games together so far.
Why, oh WHY do they do it? Fans should not abuse their own players; especially when they're giving it their best effort. Such a thing strikes me a so stupid as to think it's 'rivals' pretending to be Pompey fans. Or am I crediting certain groups within our own ranks with too much common sense?
Well, this year he has scored 3 in 6 so he is maintaining that average. Early days, I know, but when was the last time Pompey had a striker who scored every other game. If he has an eye for goal then I am not so concerned if the rest of his game is not so good. The real issue is midfield - feed enough chances and the goals will come. I have told this story before, but I remember West Ham beating Sunderland 8-0 in about about 1970 - it was on MOTD and I remember the stats. Geoff Hurst scored 6 of them (albeit one with his hand) but was in possession of the ball for less than a minute and hardly tracked back into his own half except for kick-offs. Obviously McLeod is not a Geoff Hurst but I would settle for a lazy and lame donkey of a striker if he gets goals. And as for all those abusive fans, until recently you may have only known the good times but get used to this because it might get worse before it gets better.
Don't get me wrong i rate Mcleod, he is a decent lower league player, and the abuse that he has received is definitely not deserved, especially after sticking with us all summer when he could so easily have joined a more stable club. Mcleod and Rodgers have been great signings for us! and as you say Leading Fish people are going to have to get used to a lower level of football!
No it's definitely Pompey fans Devo - some of the comments on the snooze site from the armchair managers are so deluded that they're cringeworthy - the fact that he scored a goal was irrelevant, it was all about what he doesn't do. God help us when the trust take over - I can see the fans demanding that some of the players are sacked because they aren't good enough for the mighty Pompey.
Let us hope it is them 3rd eye. I have just read on the BBC Football site that Laurence Bassini the "suspect" ex Watford owner has just put in a formal bid for PFC - God help us !!
Tyre kicker. Unless he really thinks he's going to get it all for £1. I'd rather have Chanrai than him.
Has Laurence Bassini had a history with Pompey or something ?? Everyone seems to know about him already! What has he done ??
Here's one link - there are plenty others to find out about this man though. http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/169655-Laurence-Bassini
There was talk that he might not pass the Fit and Proper test... he's proper dodgy, that one. On the other hand, people who don't appear to exist have passed it, so...
