When not606 first started I said it had the feel of a good local in that you could pop in and have a metaphorical drink and a chat with the regulars in a friendly way about the Saints and just occasionally a thread might drift off topic but would come back again. Others might call in for a quick "half" and add to the conversation. Nobody was nasty or spouted nonsense and the whole experience had a nice feel about and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience as well as the discussion and debate that ensued.

In an attempt to recapture that pub like feel and the pleasure of a in a shared interest in Saints I have decided to call this thread "The Slipped Halo", which is what I would call my pub if ever I owned one, and to invite people in to have a "drink" and a chat.

So far I hope haven't fallen foul of the moderators so I will continue. As a landlord I have some strict rules and these are when you want to post you must first name your tipple and you are not allowed to post on this thread unless you have sat and pondered your topic and thought carefully about what you want to say. We do have a bouncer and he won’t put up with name calling and he has a list of posters who are barred. There is only one name on that list at the moment and I won’t even bother to name him because you will know who I am talking about and so does he.

Well I have poured myself a rather large scotch and soda and am ready to serve any customers.

I am going to start the debate by asking:

Why has Ward Prowse been such a revelation this season and made the breakthrough to the first team while Luke Shaw gas failed to do the same despite early promise and Wenger's obvious interest. Did all the attention go to his head and cause him to lose his way a little?

Not wishing to piss in your pump , but trying to recreate that pub feel is hard with microchips , flat screens , no smoking , lack of ale , you can not see the person , no lock ins will be quite a challenge...................................

Can I have a lager please, not too bothered about brand as they all taste the same.

I don't think it is a case of Luke Shaw not fulfilling his potential just that the time (for him) is not quite right yet. Ward Prowse was able to play games last season and get used to the experience of playing in the first team so that may be one reason why he has been able to make the step up. Personally, I do think we will see some of Shaw this season although not sure when. I can't see Stephens and Chambers having an impact this season but would love to be proved wrong.

Mine's a whisky on the rocks please Godders.

I think that Ward-Prowse has just been luckier than Shaw. I say this because of Corky's absence in pre-season, and then picking up a knock. Also, with the kerfuffle around Davis' transfer, it meant that Adkins hand was forced into picking him slightly sooner than he'd like. It is just down to ward-prowse's ability that he has made the spot his own. (For the time being.) Shaw is unlucky in the sense that Fox is preferred ahead of him, and has remained fit. The other thing is, throwing a young central midfielder into the mix is less risky than throwing a youngster into an already tampered-with back four. Basically, I don't think Shaws lack of selection reflects on him being worse than ward-prowse, just that he hasn't yet had the chance to show all that he is capable of.

I have my ticket for the game against Wednesday on Tuesday (that sounds strange) in the hope that Nigel will rest Fox (bearing in mind his injury) and give Shaw a run out so that I can get a chance to see him play. I often think stepping up to the first team and getting and keeping a place is not just about talent but is also about maturity and determination.

Thank you both for entering into the spirit of the thing and by the way the drinks are on the house!

Mine would be a pint of your best and darkest cask conditioned ale.

I agree with the post above about JWP rapid promotion to the first team.
I reckon bot Shaw and Gazza will be in the game against Wednesday, although I think SKD will start it and hopfully get some confidence back by keeping a clean sheet during his period.

    Mines a Guinness!

Shaw is probably only 60% fit after his illness. Hopefully be OK for next Tuesday.

Only the very best in this pub. Just ask and you will have.

With Luke Shaw there was a suggestion made a few weeks ago that he was carrying an injury and that this was hampering his progress.

With regards to SKD being in goal I would like to think that Nigel would use the match as chance to give Gazzaniga some much needed match practice.

Nigel said that Shaw was ill after the Stevenage game and only came back to training at the end of last week. Think it was just a bug though Godders.

In that case a bottle of your finest Shiraz.

I suspect that with the volatile form of Fox then he will get his chance before long.

Hey Godders. Pint of whatever. If you saw young Luke Shaw in the street you would probably wonder why he's not at school. The point being he is just a nipper and there's no need to worry about why he hasn't broken through yet. I am sure that he will start against Sheff Weds and that we will see more of the youngsters who played against Stevenage. The other young players will be looking at Ward-Prowse and thinking that they can break in too if they work hard, rather than being put down that he is ahead of them, because the progress he has made has been brilliant.

Interesting, if you want some ideas for presentation we have the Hornets' Nest, Liverpool have something similar and West Han had a pub on 606 when it was still running.

While I'm here a pint of your best bitter please, barman.
