Hating to go over old ground again (as the has been talked to death) but the point is that, why does he let himself get so unfit over the summer...!? Why is he allowed 4/5 games to get fit when everybody else looks good?

I love the fella but it's in everyone's interests for him to be ready to go at day one.

My boss wouldn't be too happy if I underperformed in the first quarter an then make up for it the next.

I thought he looked rather thin at the weekend. But as I have said (at least twice now) for some pre season can only get you so far. Some need competitive matches to get back to their best.

I love the guy and I know he'll deliver the goods eventually. However, if he was ready and raring to go from the get-go, we might have a few extra points on the board, which could prove vital come the end of the season. No excuse for being that overweight.

His lack of form isn't necessarily about fitness and he looked very thin on saturday to me!

Wonky, look at pictures and videos of the game - he's flippin' huge mate.

In my opinion, his form - or lack of - is all down to fitness.

all of our favourite pundits, shearer, lawro, lineker and hansen, are just waiting to roll out the line 'he's been found out by defenders in his second season'

losing a bit of timber and a game on the bench might be what the doctor ordererd for grant

He doesn't look that fat to me. Admittedly there is a tiny bit more than what was there last season but not much at all!

I seem to be the only person on here who doesn't have special access to Holty's bathroom scales or the Colney Lane fitness data bank. Please can someone tell me GH's actual weight right now and provide me with a complete data series from the last two or three seasons so that I can determine the FACTS. And please, can someone remind me of just where this totally unproven assumption came from, I mean the assumption that Grant Holt let himself get unfit over the summer, was less fit than others at the start of the season, and remains unfit at this point in the season.

Look at the pictures of him from this seasons games, then look at him when he took his shirt off at Swansea. I'm afraid there is no comparison.

We're yet Rowe him with his shirt off this season. Also, the swansea game was after many matches well into the season. Now we are only four games onto the season.

Don't worry, we won't be seeing him take his shirt off for quite a while, even if he gets 5 goals against Newcastle! He knows he's a big fella, and again, in my opinion, he should be more careful when it comes to his weight. He looks a totally different player to that of the Grant Holt of early 2012.

Stop defending him with a poor excuse. If you said he was carrying an injury and we had two other injured strikers, I could accept it. But he was dire on Saturday.
I would love him to return to the form he showed (after the myth that is a slow start) last season but until then its not moaning to say he isn't playing well, its a fact.
    The slow start myth:
First season has scored a hat trick by the end of the second game.
Second season had scored two by the end of his second game.
Third season had scored by the end of his third game.

    That's a rather negative comment!

agree with this view. even taking into account he was breathing in a bit in that swansea pose, he has put a lot of timber on. It's a fact from looking at the pictures, you don't need him to have a weigh-in.

I've gotta go, so can't read every response to this, but well said! I'm glad there's someone on my side, as all my relatives and friends seem to also be suffering from extremely short memories! Holt always starts slowly, people should realise that by now!

Just to ease people's nerves a bit though; I just took Holty out of my fantasy football team starting XI, and when I did that last year he started scoring! I have a feeling the same thing will happen this year, but I've taken one for the team, if you will... :p

It's hardly a myth and goals don't always mark an end to a poor run of form. Even after his first goal each season he still had a poor run for a bit afterwards.

Either way, the best thing to do is not moan about him or berate him, but to get behind him. Something a lot of Carrow Road seem unable to do. I am not saying the posters on here moan at him or berate him at matches but there is too much expectation on his shoulders people should cheer him when he's playing badly not have a go at him. Again not necessarily saying posters on here are.

Maybe. I wish I didn't have to write it. The last thing I will say on the subject is I hadn't seen much of any highlights of our games up until the West Ham game. When I first saw Holt in Saturday's game, it was so obvious to me he had put on a fair bit of weight and he looked slow and cumbersome.

    My opinion.<ok>

He looks no bigger or smaller than ever, I don't know what people are on about. I was 20 foot away from him Saturday and he looks fine. He will start against Newcastle.

You mean, he was THAT close and didn't block your view of the entire ground? It must have been like there was a total eclipse of the Sun, and I imagine the emergency lighting came on in the stand. <ok>
