Would be hilarious if they didn't actually say anything negative other than 'it was a poor performance...'. <laugh>

    Simon Peach just tweeted:

@SimonPeach: #SaintsFC would be barmy to get rid of Nigel Adkins - here's what I told @talkSPORT last night: http://t.co/zLUUH5q1

It would not make any difference at all , its subjective , so therefore railroading someones opinion is pointless , look up forum .

OK. For those who wish to listen to Stan Collymore's reasoned comments, in my opinion, go here:

    http://www.talksport.co.uk/radio/listen-again/episode/90762

Choose the 21.00 - 21.30 section and start at 27 minutes in and the next section will automatically kick in when this section runs out. The talk is for about 5 minutes and Stan speaks a lot of common sense. However, he doesn't in any way suggest anything like the title of this thread. In fact, He and Danny Kelly pretty much say what a lot of posters point out here themselves.

Interestingly, he suggests that Saints are a squad that is 12 months too early. A thought that has occurred to me over the pre-season, several times.

Posters should be careful not to annoy others with grossly misleading titles to their threads.

EDIT: Just thought I'd add to my own comment. Please DO LISTEN to this extract, if you wish to comment on this thread. Don't take my word for it.

And you failed to mention they thought we would be going down , and how can you arrive at a division to early ? Does this mean you acknowledge they may not of planned for this ? I think again you will find they were refering to Nigel Adkins precarious positon ?

Christ do you work for the tory spin department ?

If you're listening to TalkSport consider what went wrong with your life and how you can fix it.

How do arrive at such ridiculous conclusions..? :) By the way, don't insult me by suggesting I have anything to do with the Conservative Party. As it happens, I failed to mention a lot of things because I posted before largely to just provide the link. I was actually astonished by how mild the comments were.

OK. Collymore had said at the beginning of the season, that he thought Saints would go straight back down. Nothing new there. Both of the presenters mentioned that, taking away the key three games which any team would have found hard to win, the Wigan game would have been on Adkins whiteboard as a one to win, and that was the disappointing performance. Do I exaggerate there..? Have I left out anything..? Collymore also said that Saints had a squad that may be 12 months too early, in its forming. I can understand that comment. Do you understand that..? What he is suggesting is that Saints overachieved last season, but the club weren't quite ready to start a campaign in the PL, and that next season would have been better for it. Do you not understand that view..? I understand it, although I may not necessarily agree with it. He also said that Nigel Adkins was a Premier League manager, in the sense that he was perfectly good enough for this league, and that Cortese should be patient and stick with him. Have I said anything more which Collymore and Co had not said..? They were also impressed by several members of the squad, including Lallana and Lambert. Collymore wished that Adam had been allowed to get some time in an England shirt, the other night.

As you can read, it wasn't the wrist slitting exercise you made it out to be. As I said before, people can make up their own minds by listening to the extract.

But he believed as he always had that we will go down and Wigan was a great example of his opinion ? He has been impressed with the squad but does not rate our defence/defense , he said Cortese should stick with but thinks he wont .

Now how exactly can you arrive too early ? Is this then a lack of planning as we ahve had 3 months to try to assemble a side and yet we have still failed to buy a new defense/defence .

And that as it stands will send us down .

One thing you are forgetting. It's Collymore's opinion. He also thinks two other teams will go down. That's his opinion also. The three teams could easily prove him wrong. There is no need to roll over and not enjoy this season.

BTW, I really didn't appreciate that Tory comment. Try not to be so carefree with jibes in future.

Now I agree with that completely , but that does not change my opinion as it stands we will go down as our defence/defense is crapper than all the others in the League .

Having listened to it I don't think you can really disagree with what was said. Losing to Wigan at home was a terrible result, can take positives out of the games against the big teams, but doesn't really matter as at the end of the day its a results business, Gervinho's first goal was absoloutely ******ed defending. One interesting point that they brought up which you didn't mention TSS was that Collymore said having looked at some of our signings he was wondering whether we had bought with the thinking that we were going to go down and building a team this year to be able to bounce straight back. He highlighted Clyne and Rodriguez as evidence of this, basically saying, by reading between the lines, that they are very good Championship players, but not ready for the Prem. Not something I particularly agree with, but an interesting view none the less.

Stan Collymore is actually an excellent pundit. Talksport is generally awful, but I do rate Collymore. He has a more level-head and is more knowledgable than most. Don't really understand why the BBC haven't tried to snap him up to replace any of the idiots on MOTD.

I can understand most of the points that he raised in that show to be honest. However, I think he, like most of the media in general, is underestimating us. All in all we have a good squad, capable of beating anyone when we have the rub of the green and are playing with confidence. We just need to play a few teams outside of the top 3 to really start to settle the nerves and confidence.

Fair enough. I have already said that I share your concern, but I think we need to look at this again in a few games time.

Look, if Saints had played their first four games against say, Stoke, Wigan, Fulham and Newcastle [to pick 4 teams at random], and lost them all in the same manner, THEN I would be very worried about our chances this season. But 3 of the 4 were exceptional fixtures. What many have called a baptism of fire. They wouldn't have said that if they didn't know things would be tougher than for most others. In fact, other teams who have also had a tough set of fixtures are also doing badly. No other club has had the top three as part of their first 4 fixtures. Does that not make you think... let's hang on with the downbeat feelings until we've had a few more results..? Because it certainly does with me. And I'm no happy-clappy either.

Indeed I didn't mention it. I was trying to leave something left for people to listen to. It did tie into the 12 months early idea though. I don't necessarily agree with it either, but an interesting point.

No it makes worry why we did not go out and try to buy better players or if we did why did we not get them when we are supposed to have so much money .

I'm with you Stain, completely disagree with this point.

Why would we possibly buy for the championship next season when we have the funds to try and compete in the premier league? It makes no sense. The moneys there, the clubs there, we are definitely trying to make a real go of it.
