Let me guess - "we need goal-line technology!" The free-kick that led to the 'goal' that crossed the line should never have been given, so ultimately Newcastle got justice. It was the same story at the Euros, when England were deemed 'lucky' not to concede against the Ukraine when they had a similar decision given in their favour, in spite of the fact that one of the players involved in the 'goal' was offside by some margin in the build-up. But hey, one should never let the facts get in the way of a good story...
I dont want goal line technology, but he has blown 2 calls in the space of 10 minuets. That ball was clearly over the line and before that he was not offside. Dont let this game get in the way of you bringing up a game in the Euros in order to get a good story.
I did and have lost out on £63 in my pocket, I don't mind losing a bet fairly but to be cheated out of it is f**king out of order, I'm sending my slip and an official complaint to the referee's association which won't do any good of course but at least I'll get it off my chest. what their website, does anyone know?
Why dont Premier League and indeed football league games have officials on the goal line as they do in Italy?
Because based on the Euros, they do absolutely **** all. They along the same crap to go on in the penalty area as refs do without the excuse of not being able to watch everyone as well as the play on the ball, they don't even get involved with line calls and they seem too scared to speak up and make a decision when they do get chance.
Yes it was a disgrace but no surprise. Beachball Ref.Jones is well known for being clueless (ie. that Newcastle 3 on 1 breakaway for a start) but the Linesman should be demoted to league 2 for the season. He has no excuses and his errors beggar belief. imo.
I see, you've seen a lot of officials ignoring dubious line calls in Serie A this season have you? They are there for the few occasions they do happen a season such as last night. As for the fouls, they are there in Serie A purely for line calls such as last night, the ref himself is there for the fouling.
I haven't seen them in Serie A, that's why I said 'based on the Euros', where a similar system was in place. I realise they're there for exactly what you said, but they didn't do it at all at the Euros. They just stood there for 90 minutes.
But did many calls come up? The only one I remember was the John Terry one (which admittedly from memory they got wrong).
I don't know which one you're on about in terms of Terry even. There was the Ukraine 'goal' which he cleared from behind the line which was wrong, but actually I don't blame them as much for that because it was very close and if you want to get those tight ones spot on, technology is the only way. The ones that particularly annoyed me were the incidents of pulling, pushing and hauling to the ground at set-pieces. In one game (might have been against France) Terry and Lescott were both thrown to the deck at more than one set-piece and nothing was done. How the hell are you expected to score if thats allowed? You might as well just cut out the fuss and make all England corners goal kicks instead. The ref can't always see what's going on in there fair enough, but since those officials have got bugger all else to do you'd expect them to be watching the pack for all the massively obvious fouling that goes on in every single match. They might well be briefed to only do line calls in Italy, but UEFA expect them to just act like a linesman but near the goal, and they certainly didn't do that.
