I know this is off topic, but I beg your indulgence. The German cast-offs, or what is known more popularly as the royal family, are having their big day out next Friday, together with their band of middle-class wannabees, hoping to buy us off with a holiday.

Personally I hope someone with the guts lands a smoke bomb in the middle of the scum and spoils the whole sickening spectacle. It would make my heart rejoice.

Off topic but Bolton have just beat the gunners 2-1. (Cohen)

A funny old game. Arsene will be doing a Fergie no doubt.

Personally I'd rather boil my head in a bag than watch that rubbish. Don't know what I will do with my day on friday but I can guarantee it won't involve watching that.

Actually, I would, if it were possible. The Royal Family are dirt. I heard a story about Princess Elizabeth (as she then was) 'dissing' a serving (Geordie) soldier during WW2 for not having his buttons nice and shiny in the grounds of Buckingham Palace. The same one would run a mile at the sound of a gun.

I will have my sick bag ready just as I did in 1980 when everyone was going into extasies about Diana and Charles.

Agreed with Leazes. Thanks to the Royal Family I've got a full 11 days off work and I've only used three days holiday. Long Live the Queen!

Don't be daft. You'll be suggesting atheists and agnostics shouldn't get Christmas or Easter off next!

Bank holidays are awarded by the Government, the reason for the day is besides the point.

The reason for the day is exactly the point as to how you have the day off work. Say what you want about the Royal Family, but they still offer a lot to society, and whilst their importance has been toned down, its the Royal Family that we base our entire history on, its the Queen who those in the Armed Forces take an oath for. Its the Queen who we sing our National Anthem about in Sport and at some major events. So, the next time England are playing, I expect you to be booing the National Anthem. Does that sound fair?

Have you got an invite MF? You seem like the kind of guy that might get one.

Yeah but Leazes can you not admit that during a time when people are losing their jobs here and there and tuition fees are tripling, a wedding like this which not only requires millions to fund but also takes billions out of the economy (the economy being the reason for the cuts in the first place!) is sort of an insult to ordinairy people? I'm not a massive anti-royalist but it's not exactly fair is it?

The reason why we are having the day off is because the Government and Royal Family want us to make as big a deal of the event as they do. I ask you Leazes, as a royalist would you have taken the day off, from within your holiday allowance, to celebrate the day if it hadn't been made a bank holiday? I don't think many people would, which would seriously dampen the spectacle, hence they give us the day off. I'm happy to roll with the manipulation but I won't be joining the party.

As for the importance of the Royal Family, I don't agree. The Duke of Normandy (Queen to you English) is an outdated position dating back to the days when power was enforced on the general populace in order to impose un-democratic rule, largely through claiming religious mandate (Divine Right) or playing upon patriotic feelings. You can be patriotic and sing the national anthem without wanting a royal family. I can't stand the actual words of the anthem itself for the reason you stated and would love it if the uk became a republic, but I will still sing the anthem in the meantime.

I will be at work on friday as I am not full time and the full timers need it off. I'm not that bothered about it though to be honest so it doesn't really bother me that I am there. Each person has their difference on it and I can see why people are excited, I am not one of those people though.

Also I never knew it was costing that much, it is quite disgusting!
