I was reading that Parker is due back in around 10 days, as initially he was due to be out until mid September, I wonder if he will be first choice or if AVB will stick with Sandro.
Parker coming back soon is a massive boost. Ironically I said the other day that Sandro hasn't impressed in the first 3 games and then yesterday chucks in a MOTM contender performance. Will be a fascinating battle to see who will be number 1 DM this season if both can stay fit. I tipped Sandro at the start of the season but I won't put any money on it just yet, Parker won't give up the place without a fight. Great competition to have. Likewise with a fit Hudd and Dembele, although I'm sure Dembele won't be beaten for the CM spot, knowing Hudd is there to jump in is great, I'm a big fan of Tommy and delighted he's still with us.
AVB didn't mention it but talked about Benny's injury after the game. I think AVB just didn't fancy him. Huddlestone's a fan favourite and he's been training with AVB over the last two weeks so may have played his way into his thinking ahead of Jake.
Afternoon Notso... I will leave that to the mods to decide..I'm more than happy to have this as a match thread aswell....but if some keen statto amongst us wants to create a 'match thread' then I'm good with that aswell. I just want to get the vibe going amongst us so we are all taking the Europa seriously and I really hope that the team thinks the same. Plus I'm challenging myself to do some pre match research on some not so well known teams before we play them.
No problem with using this as the match thread, you can alway edit the title if you want. I think we should have seperate threads for the other EL games though. It can get a bit untidy with one long thread.
This is fine as a match thread I think... Most of us are already talking about Lazio so it'd be pretty pointless to make a Lazio thread. If anything maybe this should just be a "sticky" and we'll talk all things Europa here, saves creating numerous threads where we pretty much discuss the same things anyway. Perhaps we can do that for the Capital One Cup and FA Cup too? Just use Wiki Spurlock, that'll have all the info you need on a club
that is my aim SOS. I'm good with your suggestion YV. I remember my first Spurs shirt was the LE Coq Sportif 1984 EUFA cup final shirt....my dad, being an immigrant did not know much about football..he just came here to make a better life for his family. One day he came home having purchased the shirt and gave it to my brother who it did not fit, plus he was already a Mouser fan. Growing up in a generation of 'hand me downs' I was 3rd in line and it fitted me just right. I think it is true... We don't choose our shirt, the shirt chooses us' So this competition has always had a special place for me, it is just a shame the Hollywood fanfair surrounding the Champions League has overshadowed it. COYS.
Switching between the two is probably one of the easier decisions to make - Sandro has had a busy summer so will need to have a rest when the games start piling up in October/November, and by then Parker will be match fit so can come into the team. *adds another 10p to the tactics swear jar*
Good point. Don't have a problem who starts in the DM position out of them two, neither will let us down. Great competition there. I've not heard of this tactics swear jar, if it exists... I'll be broke!
As ever I'm going to be a bit radical and suggest AVB might not be a Parker fan, won't surprise me now anyway...nothing does after VdV, Daws and Hudd! Great ball winner, throw yourself under a bus for Spurs type player, but his sideways, backwards, slow it all down distribution doen't seem the new mans way. He likes his DM's to have a bit more about them it seems to me, we shouldn't forget SP is 32 next month either. I expect uproar following this and have my reply already...no one is safe! Again, I'm not necessarily endorsing this, just something thats been at the back of my mind.
Parker's age was the reason I tipped Sandro to take the number 1 DM role this season. As brilliant as Scotty was, he did start to tire near the end of games at the tail end of last season. Age unfortunately catches up on players (plus the fact he ran himself into the ground every other game!) and while I still know he'll play a massive role for us this season, we shouldn't be expecting more from him than what he done last season. Think AVB has got a fantastic headache to have though when Scotty's back fit.

Notso- I think AVB said in a recent interview that he was looking forward to having Scotty back. If thats right we have a very a good mf backup and he has great stamina will be good for the EL games.
http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/spu...thing-special-in-europa-league-17092012.page? Great words from AVB here. Glad to know he's taking the competition as seriously as most of us. I've always said any chance of silverware should not be disregarded and it's about time we try and go for the Europa League, a competition we have every chance of winning if put effort into it.
