Nigel Reo-Coker on verge of signing for Charlton... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...eo-Coker-verge-signing-Charlton.html?ITO=1490 Dunno about you boys but I'm far from enthused about his potential arrival...!!
We're "championship strugglers" now? Huh. Two more points at Birmingham and we'd be sitting merrily in mid table. Funny what one minute does. As for the suppsoed signing itself, it's honestly probably better than what we have at the moment. (incoming abuse)
Wouldn't say he's "defensive". More a classic central midfielder. He does like to push forward. Have to say, this is a coup. If it comes off I will be very excited- a ball winning midfielder who can pass/retain possession.
To be honest, we don't have a proper Def Mid at the club, Hollands is better higher up the pitch (as he was for part of last season) Stephens is better as the creative Mid and not worrying about defending all the time, Pritchard is an all action attacking mid, Hughes is always injured!! Jacko seems to be played on the left. I would be happy with NRC as I feel his experience in locking down the area in front of the CBs could be very useful. He gets a few goals as well, which, we haven't had from midfield so far this season.
A quality player and certainly what the doctor ordered. However, it's not going to happen because this story was not leaked on charlton life first and as we know know we have no money and are going into admin.
If this turns out to be true I'd be happy, me and my mates at the palace game were saying how much we needed a CM with championship/prem experience, and NRC definitely fits the bill
This signing would have made perfect sense if we had sold Stephens to Villa. Which we should have done! A midfield of Green, NRC, Hollands and Kerkar/Waggy/Cook would do for me. Anything other than Jackson and Pritchard!
I instinctively dislike Reo Coker. No valid reason. Probably a lovely guy. Can't be any worse that we have already. A possible midfield of Kerkar, RC, Stephens and Green. Suspect Jacko wont be dropped now that Wiggy is crocked though. RC has to be a forward step. Hopefully his attitude is ok. Not just here cos were the only club who will have him. CP will have a job to do here getting his head straight. But all in all it has to be good news if it's true.
Oh and just picking up on a couple of earlier points - this was on CL yesterday (though I am in no way sticking up for them). And we really are championship strugglers. Sorry, but on the evidence so far we really are!
We did a sports and nurses campaign a few years ago that was picked up for a televised documentary. The two most hands on with the project were Jermaine Defoe and NRC. Came across as a gent and had no problem in giving up time or money to help with the work we were doing. I can see why Bolton fans were upset as at the time he activated his release clause there was talk that he was going for lucrative money in Turkey. Whether that was true or paper talk (much like our move for him currently), we don't know. His ''bad reputation'' seems to stem from his time at Villa under Martin O'Neil (who is known to have a temper), and it was he who apparently made the first move at NRC. If we do sign him, then lets judge him on his time with us. We really need some Championship quality. Even better if we get Premiership.
And as soon as I start to get excited: Nigel Reo-Coker training with #cafc but told there is no chance of a permanent deal. From Rich Cawley on twiter. Darn.
I actually was the first person to discover Nigel (or 'Nige' as I now know him) as a young lad at Wimbledon on Champ Man 4.
Amazed anyone thinks we don't need a new CM. The midfield was clearly the weakest area of the team last season and it's an even bigger problem this season. We need more pace, drive and aggression in the middle. Don't know if Reo-Coker is exactly what we need but would surely be a good signing and an improvement on what we have.
