Suarez Tezzies. Exactly. I'm more optimistic, than this time last year.FSG in January went beserk that more money WASN'T spent. They tried to tie up 2 more deals along with the Carroll and Suarez deals. And were angry they couldn't.They haven't put a foot wrong.Kenny is a breath of fresh air.He manages like a fan,he kicks every ball,he celebrates every goal,he rues every miss. Robin Van Fiberglass. Arsenals chances of success NEXT season are all but gone already.Stevie Wonder can see that Arsenal need 4 6ft battering rams. Can Wenger? He said ''We need maturity''.No you ****ing nitwit, you don't,you need balls.Anyone that thinks Arsenal will be successful if Wenger doesn't change his atitude is incredibly stupid.Unless Wenger changes his atitude,Arsenal will be nothing more than a top 4 side. The only trophy they will win will be the 'The most times we can try and fail to pass the ball into the net cup''.
Optimism can be misguided sometimes. If players get too optimistic they get overconfident and can get found out, and if supporters get too optimistic they can get on the backs of their team if they have a bad patch, much like Arsenal supporters were doing in the run in this year. I think RVF's point is that you should be optimistic about your chances, but not so optimistic to think that it won't be a struggle to get back into the top 4, and accept that there may be a few setbacks along the way, and moments when things go against you.
Suarez No such thing as misguided optimism then? Well in that case I am 100% certain we will win the champions league next year. KPR 'arsenals chances of success NEXT season are all but gone already' What the ****? How can we have lost next season when we have not even finished this one? That makes no sense.
I agree somewhat there RVF, I think it is recognised at arsenal now that they need to invest in the summer. All are calling for it now as this is yet another year where arsenal have fallen away at the end. It is not like you need a clearout, just more quality and depth to the squad. A good spoiler you have not had since Viera
For awhile, I thought Song just might fill that, but he has just fallen off lately, was it that yellow beard?
Arsenal appear to be a team of peers, there isn't a leader that runs things on the pitch, someone to pull them togethetr when it starts to fall apart like at newcastle, they've handed the league to whoever wins it because they were in a great position to go on, the CL exit must have left them flat after the cup final loss which probably did the most damage of all as I'd say they'd have expected to win that at least and they haven't really recovered since.
Forgot about Gilberto Silva, even when Viera was winding down they had him as well to do some damage.
Incredible article. In all seriousness, not long ago I remember Liverpool struggling. But, within a few months everything has changed. Newly appointed manager has ensured his players maintain a positive mental attitude on the pitch.
I'd say playing players in a way that makes them effective gives confidence to all. You can be the best man manager on the planet but unless you get it right on match day it counts for nothing no matter how well you get on with the players. Passing and movement have improved a lot over the last couple of games and we got 8 in two, 3 city 5 brummies not bad at all. We need to be a little more ruthless in front of goal. The improvements are not morale based but tactical which gives confidence when it works and morale improves as a result. Kenny has got it right on match day. Given that his plans bring success and belief the players have faith in his management. My only regret, Carra is getting near the end, he cannot be replaced, who cna actually fill those boots, noone for obvious reasons but whoever gets to come in will have to be very good.
I'd put my money on Kelly being able to fill his boots. It's early days yet and we may need to bring somebody with experience as a stop gap, but I think the boy is showing enough promise for us to think he's good enough.
The same Gilberto Silva that gets caught ahead of the ball a fair bit? Not the best place to be when you lose posession if your job is to stop the opposition playing, not when playing top opposition anyways. You want your DM playing 95+% of his games well, anything else is a liability in that position.
I hear ya but when I think back to all the Wonder blocks and tackles that have won us trophies literally it makes teh mind boggle to think who on earth can ffill that gap, you cant replace 15 years of great experience for club and country with a youngster
What I was refering to is identification of problems.Kenny knows what the flaws in the Liverpool squad are and he will address them. Its glaringly obvious what the flaws are.We need more style.Wenger on the otherhand cannot see what the flaws are at Arsenal. They need balls. It would be a major tragedy if such a talented team like Arsenal remains trophyless. But it will continue unless Wenger gets his finger out and signs 4 6ft battering rams.Sorry I have to be cruel to be kind. But if it gets to September 2011 and Wenger hasn't done so.Arsenal fans may as well kiss goodbye to any hope of silverware.
They just do not win enough posession in the opponents half, United do win a fir bit and get plenty of goals from it, when lfc came second they also got a lot of goals from winning the ball in the opponents half. When an Arsenal attack fails they are open to counter, their shape because of the players they have leaves them exposed when a midfielder losses the ball, no real dominance in the air defending, tall chaps but they don't "!Own" their own penalty area. I can't fault them attacking, and if they could win the ball back in the opponents half 25 30 yards out on a regular basis they'd score even more, but usually it is pressure on the defence when they lose posession that causes the problems. A good leader there would keep players on their toes and stop them nodding off position wise whilst at the same time anchoring midfield and stopping anyone that tries to break out in a counter, not get caught 20 yards out trying to shoot and a counterattack leades to conceding instead, Lucas has since stopped doing that unless we are 3 0 up and we are benefitting from it as his sole focus is stopping the other guy playing, anything else is a bonus tbh. When you have a solid dm it gives solidity to your attacks too as you may well win plenty of those important second balls and always provide a handy easy passing option if needed to keep momentum going and retain posession so a good DM will always make himself available through good movement in the area they operate in. Masc was awesome even though his passing left a lot to be desired, Lucas decent as he is has range issues but on the whole his contribution is good no doubt, he is playng as well as mascerano did right now but he has a better pass on him than masc. Arsenal dont need to spend a lot, two players and two squad players. They need a top class DM not someone that maye be a good dm in years tro come, this will give confidence to a decent defence low on confidence as they get left exposed by the midfield. For such a good posession team their (Arsenals) defence has to deal with a fair bit of pressure in games, they don't nearly pass as well as they used to or is that just me?
Brilliant assessment. If you don't win the second balls,it doesn't matter how much possession you have,as you can easily get picked off. In the 2008/2009 season however Liverpools biggest problem was there as no balance between gung ho and rigid. Both worked, but both didn't. Kenny has identified that.Okay we had the chance to bury City by scoring more goals, but if we had left ourselves open, the game could easily have ended 3-3 than 5-0. Watch the way Lucas and Spearing double up on the Liverpool full-backs when Liverpool aren't in possesion? As soon as Liverpool are back in possesion, they come back inside.I don't think Arsenal for all their attacking intent have the players to kill games off and do come unstuck when they don't win those second balls. There also seems to be a real lack of organisation and leadership. As I said,if this isn't recognised,Arsenal for all their attacking intent and wonderful passing and style will in fact finish trophyless again next season. As I said for such a wonderful footballing side, and most neutrals love to watch them play would be a tragedy.
Why you on the defensive? I was wondering why you had decided to post on a 3 month old thread. As it happends it was nice to read my views, and i stand by then. I.e looking forward to stuffing some of the teams that ridiculed us last year.
