No. The defence and midfield is bloody awful. In particular Clyne. Niemi actually had some protection infront of him.
Atkins needs to take criticism here. Davis didnt have an off day on saturday, that is him. He has poor reactions, makes bad decisions. You guys defend him for his past record but that was not in the prem!!!!When he was at Ipswich he did well. Went to the prem and boom was poor. He has got no serious competition this year so we are stuck with him. Fox isnt good enough either but we dont buy Buttner and he signs for MU!!! Nice one.Two CB's are good pros but slow so what happens we sign a Japenese who nobody has heard of. Poor management and these decisions could cost him his job!!
Yawn... same old same old. You have no idea what players he (or more importantly they) tried to sign, and has been said so many times on here before by different people, it isn't like a Christmas list where you write down what you want and good old Santa delivers it.
True, i expect they did try and sign other defenders, but Buttner was available and we could have signed him. We have resources, i suggest we should have tried harder. If you are tired go to bed earlier i suggest!!
Just stop for one moment and ask yourself why Buttner didn't sign? Why was there a bit of quiet for a few weeks and then "out of the blue" with no rumours whatsoever, Buttner signs for United? Now it may be a bit of a surprise to you, but I bet United scout in Holland too. It is so obvious that at the point of the deal moving to completion, United suddenly reacted and tempted him away. Who would you choose? As for your "should have tried harder" remark, you really think that we have been let-down by transfer activity?
£29 million pounds is hardly a llack of activity! Most of us would have llaughed if we'd been told Saints would splash that much cash!
Wrong to select SKD for criticism...the team as a whole is responsible for defence. Exposing Kelvin will make him look worse than he is. Don't care how easy they were, he saved two penalties....enough to put doubt into a penalty takers mind.
To be fair to him/her, they are all welcome on here and to voice their opinion. I was trying to point out another view to redboycie.
Fran I agree with part of your sentiment and I am not one to be jumping up and down too much at individual players. However, I thought SKD could have done better with the first three goals. I felt the first should never have gone "through" him, especially from that angle, the free kick was not far off centre (poor positioning) and the third he was obviously very exposed, and was too easily beaten at the near post. That is being very tough though.
Ihave been a Saints supporter since 1948, i moved to Turkey 5 years ago so can only watch when saints are on TV or i can stream the match. Watched Saturdays game, thought the whole team was very poor Lambert didn't have one decent cross to attack, the defence was crap, goal keeper wants to learn how to comand his 6yrd box,his positonal play especially near post is dreadful. Just my opinion and i have seen lots of different Saints sides .
They are your right, I just get tired of people signing up to be negative, negative, negative as keeps happening (or as it appears anyway)
I think most teams would have been hammered the way Arsenal played on saturday. It will happen to better teams than us too!
Fran, your opinions are well received on here by all. Do you not think that a good goalkeeper would help the defence from a confidence point of view. Some of the best defenders in the world concede goals through mistakes caused by a lack of confidence in the goalie!
You a correct IMO. It is always tough though when someone has been as loyal as SKD has. He is a good keeper, however I have always worreid about the same things with him: 1. His distribution 2. He isn't commanding in the air (see the cross in the first half saturday?) 3. When he parries a shot, it often comes back into play within the sticks, not wide of them I thought we may have brought in another experienced goalkeeper, but we haven't. SKD will stay in goal unless Nigel is confident that Gazza is ready. Until January, it is what it is. I don't want to come on here slagging SKD off, and don't like it when people do, yet I would agree that a more confident, commanding keeper could help settle the defenders. While he is picked to play, I will be giving my loudest support and singing Super Kelvin Davis anytime he makes a save. We need him to be as confident as possible. If the crowd turn on him at games, we are knackered.
Have to agree with this but clearly it's a bit too soon for Gazza or Cropper. Kelvin will have good and bad games but as has been said already the defence has to take some of the blame. A Shilton, Hart or Niemi would be great but I'm not convinced they would have stopped us being hammered on saturday!
Absolutely...good goalkeeper like Niemi gives confidence to defence. But things are what they are. Gazzaniga will have a game against Sheffield Wenesday I presume...another chance for Adkins to have a look.
