That's a great analogy but I would apply it to some people's obsession with Taarabt. No matter how awful he was last season, guys used to still kiss his arse in broad daylight (metaphorically speaking of course).

It is 4-2-3-1 as I put on another thread for Spurs without the 3 players injured yesterday:

    ---------------------Cesar----------------
    Bosingwa----Nelson-----Mbia------Traore
    --------------Granero----Faurlin----------
    --------Cisse----------Adel---------------Hoilett
    -------------------Zamora-----------------

Subs: Clint, Onouha, Mackie, SWP, Murphy, Park, Diakite

Play Diakite (if fully fit) for Adel or Hoillet if Spurs are considered so good, but don't think they are.

Hardly nonsense Swords, 4-2-3-1 is an extremely common formation in football. What is your love of MH's defensive formations? Continue like that we'll draw a few maybe, but win little, bore everyone to death and empty the terraces, so talk of a 40K new stadium seems even funnier than it is now, and put us into another relegation battle. But at least the relegation battle will provide excitement! Not much else will other than watching Granero and Ale, play with style but with noone in the front 3/4 to convert it into goal chances.

Its the only way he could play it yesterday. With your muppets included, we would've been beaten 5 again. Hughes has dropped those lazy bastards because they think they've an automatic entitlement to get in the team. They don't and they won't be included until they realize they have to put in a shift when playing for our Club.

I'm hoping that he'll attack more against the shi*ter teams.

I don't see Cisse, Hoillet or Adel are lazy b******* at all. At his worst Adel sulks but that's not because he's lazy but a bit of a pill*ck sometimes - but he ain't done that for a while. If MH is a half decent Manager no player is going to be "lazy" in his team - to be fair to him I haven't seen that either.

Too early to compare in a season to compare how many assists but obviously Granero and Faurlin's ability is unquestioned. That leaves Park from yesterday and while he's had a couple of if-ey performances while played out of position he started to show yesterday his strengths. The praise that SWP has got is set against the low benchmark of his generally low standard and it annoys me are quick to praise someone for managing to turn in a medicore performance rather than their usually poor performance.

There should never be another game this season when any one player out of; Park, Adel, Mackie, Hoilett and Dyer are sitting on the bench when SWP is on the pitch.

Exactly, Mackie and Park can do the same defensive job as him and offer a lot more going forward, while the others offer much more going forward. Mackie and Park if we are going for a draw, Park and Taarabt/Hoilett for all games where we are going fora win.

Mediocre performance? Thought SWP did a very good job Saturday.

Wright-Phillips did fine. 7/10 for me- offered very, very little going forward but was very good defensively. If we're going to put a workmanlike player in that position I'd rather it were Mackie, however. Accommodating Taarabt and Hoilett at any time apart from when we're chasing a game isn't sensible imo. For me, Park has to play also. Cisse on the wing hasn't worked at any point in his career and I don't expect it to now.

If they're all fit then I'd bring Mackie in for Wright-Phillips at Spurs and leave it at that. If Johnson is injured I'd play Hoilett off of Zamora.

I haven't got time to read all the posts as I haven't looked at the forum since before the game, yet I really think SWP upped his game today. He took on and beat players and, until he went off, was one of the most creative players. It looked like him or AJ would break the deadlock.

Anyway, SWP went off with a standing ovation, I think half out of everyone thinking he had played well and half out of everyone being so pleased about improvement.

Does anyone else agree that while Ferdinand looked quite solid in the game he was absolutely CLUELESS when it came to distributing the ball and sometimes took so long that he had to pass to someone in emergency?

I've gone on the record before saying SWP has had too many chances at this club and other should come before him but would openly admit he upped his game on Saturday but still think there are other players in front of him, one game won't change my view I'm just not that Fickle.

Yes AWJM Anton looked solid, in fact I find it hard to criticise anyone from the team performance on Saturday, obviously we could have been better in front of goal.

The trouble is, when hes had so many bad games, people arent going to change their minds just because he wasnt our worst player on the pitch, same goes for Ferdinand. SWP will have to score and get assists regularly to carry on starting and his worst game should be like the last one.

I think he's been improved in all performances this season, including pre-season. Ok, NO ONE was particularly good against Swansea but still...

I agree but there is more to his game than two aspects. Obviously MH sees something in him and wants to stick with it. But I have a feeling that as soon as SWP has a bad performance, Hoilett will be straight in. Or maybe Taarabt or someone else.

Theres no way he should start against WHU unless he gets a MOTM performance against Spurs, Ill go nuts if we have to suffer him over Mackie, Taarabt and Hoilett. Especially as we have to play Park out of position at LW to accommodate SWP.

Dropping SWP means we will get a better player in and Park will play better in his natural position.

To be fair to SWP he wasn't bad on Saturday. With him the inverse of the Peter Crouch rule applies: He's got a crap touch for a small man.

Adel and Hoilett have much closer control and are less likely to lose possession. As for Dyer he too was a bit of a headless chicken back in his day, a poundshop Cashley with added injuries.

SWP knows the game better than Mackie, the defensive side of his game is excellent.
As an attacker, still a **** Wee player though!

However when we needed a RB, Mackie went there instead of SWP so I think Hughes rates Mackie more defensively as well. Which only increases my confusion as to why SWP starts.
