You are one of the most negative guy I have ever chatted to. You always see things In a bad light, think you need to get a grip. Yes we have no points and let in a **** load of goals. But there is 34 games left, anything could happen.
But you have not acknowledged my points , its all to easy to make a counter statement as opposed to answering the questions .
Anything could happen when trying to sign a player. We will never know what happened, who we came close to signing etc. So best to move on.
Gomarching we have answered your points. The club spent a huge amount of money in the window and its too early to say how good those signings will be. You can argue over timing but as Beef said who knows what discussions went on behind he scenes. Most of us would not have believed we would spend the amount we did. That's old news now. We can't strengthen an further until the new year.
Trouble is Gomarchingin.....as soon as they see it is you that has posted...they just assume it is a negative point of view. They cannot see past the negativity to see the factual side. However even there they have a point though...it is early days and they are not wrong in being upbeat!
I know Beddytare , its stops rational discussion , this is our lot and we have to make do , I fully understand and accept that , what I am driving at is why and how we came to this point , who allowed this to happen ? If they are happy with the team they have assembled why has Adkins stated he is looking for more ? Are they happy with the defenders ? If they are then serious questions have to be asked and the man in the street can see they are out of their depth , if Cortese purchases the payers does this absolve Adkins as he solely responsible for tactics ? The tactics have been wrong in at least two games , so Adkins is at fault for that . We have shipped 14 goals in 4 games so is Cortese responsible as he bought or did not buy the players ? Will he sack himself if it does not work out ? I dont think so I think Adkins will carry the can , what will the happy ones do then ? Who do they blame because I think the way we are going it can only lead down that path , its an interesting one for them to ponder , they probably have not even thought about it as it splits their argument .
Being miserable all the time will not protect you from pain. Will gomarchinin be happier than me if we get relegated because he was miserable all season instead of just the latter end. Does it have any effect on the team and how they perform? Only if we have a whip round and buy a CB (with pace).
Course I have thought what if and also have thought our defence and keeper is crap atm. But I can't be negative 24/7 and moan about everything, we are only 4 games into the season. We have been promoted twice in two seasons, so at present it it hard for me to really be down. Yes we could do better but as people have said we have played 3 of the top teams. If we were in the same boat but swap the Manc's and Arsenal games for teams that will be around us at the end, then yes i'd be worried. There are far more teams that envy us even if we have had a poor start, I'd think Pompey were one. Look at the **** they are in compared to us, that's why I am still positive and upbeat. Come on we are back in the Prem after all.
absolutely right BD. This guy seems to think that you just pop down to the goalkeeper shop and the defender shop when you want one and chose whichever you want. Clueless - utterly clueless.
Lets not get mixed up with being upbeat as being happy. There is not one fan out there that is happy with us being bottom of the league. Having shipped 14 goals and only scoring 5 (cup games apart) There are fans that accept the situation but believe we will improve and are confident in that. When you are in the situation we are in at the moment most studious fans will take each game as it comes for a while. They will look for whatever positives they can, they are not wrong in doing that. At the moment they do not want to go down the road of a negative possibility. So they choose to ignore it. You actually reminding them of that negativety just goes against the grain this early in the campaign is all........
Actually, it is more like people who are near suicidal after 4 games of a 38 game campaign, when three of those four games were against probably three of the four teams who will make the champions league, is frankly idiotic. And I do wish people wouldn't keep quoting him. Rational discussion with this person is impossible.
Quoting this because, amongst all the other posts, Fran is making a great point here. I'm not going to bring up the glass half-full or half-empty argument [well, perhaps I am a litle], but are people actually happier when they perceive situations as a disaster, rather than a hiccup/blip..? When the evidence is stacked heavily in favour of a measured response, ie. oh dear we lost to Wigan at home - better sort that quickly.., why are some ecstatic at the thought they have, at last, a reason for jumping off the Itchen Bridge..? [OK, I used an extreme scenario there to illustrate my point, hopefully you see the humour in it]. I know we are governed by a few chemicals, produced in varying doses by our bodies, and none of us produce exactly the same amounts, thereby often guiding our general outlook, our mood swings etc.., but in our heads we can control these reactions to an extent. I have suggested in the past that posters who feel they may be at risk of extreme reactions should perhaps cool off before they post. Otherwise, I can't see where their personal emotional pay off is.
I'm watching the Reading-Spurs game, and shock horror the Reading defence are looking vulnerable to Spurs' attacking threat. Lennon completely outpaced Harte for the goal, and Defoe took on two defenders on his own to almost make it 2-0. As poor as our defence might be, do people seriously expect the Reading and Nowich and West Ham and Wigan etc defences to cope that much better against the top teams than us? This season isn't like the last few seasons. Our target isn't 20 - 30 victories. A few wins here and there and a 17th placed finish is the target IMO. So how we cope, or fail to cope, against the top sides - and in fact, half of the division - is irrelevant. Reading keeper almost gifts Spurs a goal.
....and injection of sense from st_bendy. Sadly it will go flying over some peoples' heads - but well said.
To address GoMarching's point directly, the failure to sign another defender cannot be automatically blamed on Cortese as a failure of ambition, or finance. Since we are not party to what negotiations took place (we conduct our business in private) we don't know how close we came. In any case. We spent a shedload of money in any case. Most fans think that he did a good job and are confident that he will be active in January. Your main complaint seems to be that many of us are too happy with where we are and seem complacent. I refuse to be downbeat precisely because I believe NC is not complacent about the situation. You criticise our chairman, who has the confidence of the vast bulk of fans, and should not be surprised that folks disagree with you, although some of that has bordered on abusive. It might help if you showed some enjoyment from your side playing in the Premiership after all that has happened in recent years.
