That thought did run through my head (not just for Glazers though ), would owners be prepared to give up about 20-40 (depending on size of ground) ticket sales each home game...?
the FA should fund it, after all they are supposed to be the governing body to set an example in all this *cough* unless it hurts them financially i don't think they care enough, which is fooking sad in itself.
It will only take a small minority for it to kick off on both sides next week. Lets hope neither set of supporters kick it off next week. I agree that excuse is pathetic.
And you wonder why this will never stop. It's comments like those that perpetuate the anger. I've never sung about Munich, I don't even know the words of the 'song'. Whilst the majority on this board consistently tell you that they have never heard it at Anfield for years, you inisit that it is. You then insinuate (I'm being precise with my words here) that it is our supporters who have become "bitter and hateful" whereas this thread concerns a match at OT and the actions of United supporters! As you are always asking for proof then please provide proof of you final statement. This is not banter. it is not even a topic for banter. Therefore all you have succeeded in doing is to produce a series of snide comments that do not help or explain the situation and would be better left unsaid.
So you're suggesting that Liverpool fans don't taunt United fans with Munich chants, the vitriol is one sided?
The escalation? Yes? But what they are trying to say is this is a very very specific problem that too often, like your post Dave quoted gets attached to more general banter or opinion we have about each other. It will never stop if we don't draw a clear line. So by all means in another discussion state you believe that LFC fans are bitter or look for your result first. But don't tag that into a death chant discussion because it sounds like a justification. On both sides these people rely on their views being hidden in the main banter. Saw as just the extreme end of general mudslinging between the 2 clubs. We have to very carefully & very deliberately stop when it occurs, turn round & say get out. So for e.g. If Comas (I didn't see it so can't claim it's true) makes this type of comment on your side of the house, it needs all of YOU to turn around and say stop or we'll all ask the mods to remove you. It doesn't matter that he's "dead on usually about everything else" he believes & shares views that you claim are unacceptable. You wouldn't allow someone who is brilliant, funny, all things United except he drops in the odd "paki b*stards should leave the country" (apologies for the example but I needed to make the point) to continue on your board would you? It should be exactly the same on this side. I for one can guarantee you if I see it I'll complain no matter who it is. Arguing semantics becomes justification. Justification means we are all liars about wanting to remove it from our midst. And the same approach needs to happen at grounds. If you hear the singing everyone else stop, point to those doing it & start chanting "NOT IN OUR NAME!" draw attention to them.
We can't do anything, except about ourselves. ALL clubs' supporters should live by that motto. But Utd taunt us about 20-odd years without a league, when they laugh about kenny getting the sack, when they deride us about being a big club no more (all things we'd do, tbh, if the boot was on the other foot!) the moment of truth comes - not just whether you'll respond with Munich sneers (I'm sure the vast majority won't, even if they sing about Hillsborough) BUT ARE YOU/WE GOING TO LET THAT KNOB SITTING BY YOU SINGING THE MUNICH SONG GET AWAY WITH IT? With the events of the past five days I feel more contented and secure about my city, its people and our fans than I have for over two decades. Justice will come, now is the time for dignity, not vengeance. Nothing should deflect us from a new reality and stance now, it's time, with right on our side, to ignore any provocations and understand that this is the moment to walk away from that shight with our heads held high. In fact, if, as has been mooted, United wish to come to the Kop end and lay a rememberance wreath as Newcastle and Arsenal did at the time, I would hope the fans gives them a sincere and rapturous applause. This wheel needs to stop turning. We've won this argument and going back to Munich chanting just makes us losers again.
I've certainly heard "Munich scum" screamed in response to "96 wasn't enough" Dave. What Man U fans do is up to them, as and when the references to Munich chants/jibes completely stop by us. Doesn't matter if they carry on for another two decades, this is an argument that's over.
Liverpool fans have recently done so, I wont provide links because point scoring is stupid. You know full well that Liverpool have idiots and I know United have idiots. Pretending one side doesnt and the other does is as stupid as being involved in the chanting imo. You are burying your head.
All United fans are being tarnished with the same brush which is unfair. I wouldnt even call these people United fans. Football fans support football clubs. We dont mock tragic moments in a clubs history. These people are akin to hooligans, not interested in the football, just their to spread hate. **** them.
Walk away and leave it behind Dave. In fact, I wish I hadn't started the thread now. It never ends, but it should now. can someone tell me how to close this thing?
I haven't UIR, I've acknowledged the opposite. And that we have scum too. We can't let them win by keeping it up. this thred's a mistake, as i started it hoping that our fans would agree to turn the other cheek from a position of moral high ground, and it's all going back to he said-she said. Well it ends with each individual - this is my last ever word on Hillsborough/Munich chanting. No more.
I must admit that when I've heard '96 was not enough (and it's not just United supporters who have chanted it), I have wanted to hit the people chanting it - and at well over 60 that's not a good idea! So that's why I'm suggesting that we respond with chants that are about something truly important or we draw attention to their intolerable behaviour.
How's. that again dave? bear in mind my daughter has to do most things apart from turing my computer on/off and typing
in this day and age it should be easy to single out this type of thing and ban the offenders from the stadium. I'd say leave it to Manchester United to deal with, it's their ground. I don't care what supporters at Old Trafford sing to be honest unless we were playing there as relatives and friends of those who died may be attending, that is not acceptable and that is the massive difference between Munich and Hillsborough, those who lost sons and daughters are still attending these games, I am not ranking the tragedies just the chanting affects at games where these teams play each other like the one next week. To fully realise there may be fathers mothers brothers and sisters of those who died in the crowd and chant that sh!t, now that is what I call scum, I hope that will not happen
Any abuse from the visiting United supporters should be met with a response of Justice For The 96 or, at the very worst You're Scum And You Know You Are
I stayed away from that because they would likely sing their abusive version and take great delight in the 2nd verse.
