In October 2010,We were worrying whether we would have a Liverpool to support, and the doom-mongers had Liverpool set for administration with a 9 points deduction. We were sold and things improved.
In November 2010,after a 2-0 defeat to Everton we were languishing in 19th place in the league and not bottom,by virtue of goal-difference.
Since January we've been revived and revitilsed since Kenny replaced Hodgson in the dug-out.What seemed like fantasy, which was a top five finish(In January we would have settled for top 8)could yet become a reality.
What can Kenny do when he actually puts his stamp on the club? There is so much stability and togetherness and unity its unbelievable. The influx of youth into the squad is also a positive, and they seem like they are mature beyond their years. The frightening thing for the rest of the premier-league and a positive thing for us is that there is at least 3 more youngsters to be unleashed.Raheem Sterling,Conor Coady and Andre Wisdom have been tipped by many to come off the conveyor belt.Rafa said that when he revamped the youths/reserves that if he could get 4-5 into the first team squad,it would be successful.Potentially there could be 7.This is remarkable.
Another thing is,Our brand without champions league football is still attractive. Our new sponsorship deal(The new £25 million a year kit deal) which is the biggest in English football which dwarfs Man Uniteds is proof of that.Okay it doesn't kick in until 2012.But we have nailed it.
The signs are incredibly positive. We've a manager that manages like a fan,we've got owners Man United fans can only dream about, and we've an influx of exciting youngsters.
Those that wrote Liverpool off, would want to be reminded of what Gerard Houllier once said ''If you spit up into the air, sometimes it could come down and land on your face''.
Liverpool are at their most dangerous when they are written off.
Let the rest of the premier league be warned.Liverpool are back.

    Excellent article.

The signs do look very good indeed. There is a feel-good factor at the club now. Everybody is united from Kenny to the kit man. The players have got confidence and they are all playing very well. The younger players are being given chances and they are taking them. There is still a lot of work to do but we are going in the right direction. The future looks very bright indeed. <ok>

    Nice article.

I can remember getting an absolute pasting from what seemed like every fan in the country who were loving us struggle. Fans from almost every club got on the bandwagon, it became trendy to hate/laugh at Liverpool.

I havent forgotten them, hopefully we can turn a few more of them over like yesterday as a way of saying "remember us?" The ones you said were getting relegated? Loving it.

Do you remember a lot of people telling us that we were going to be on -3 points when we went into administration? However these people didn't understand the concept of ''Employment Law''.Sir Martin Broughton had a ''contract of employment'' which allowed him to complete certain tasks, which gave him the authority to do so.Which he did.He did everything by the book. He's now in fact our favourite Chelsea fan.
Sir Martin Broughton had the law on his side when he sold the club, because Hicks and Gillett stupidly gave him too much power.Okay they were under pressure from RBS,but thankfully they did give him too much power. The law was on Sir Martin's side so much,Hicks almost landed himself a spell in prison for contempt of court. If he hadn't given the green light to the sale by a certain time,an arrest warrant would have been issued.Luckily for us that do understand ''Employment law'' we knew the sale would go through.
The ones that were hoping for our demise have been left sick as parrots.

They've got 2 games in hand.In order for us to get 5th we need them to beat Spurs. Can't see us getting 4th.However from where we came from in January, getting 5th would be remarkable. With a few additions, and a decent start to the season next time round.4th will be a doddle.I would even say a title challenge would also be a possibility.

I wish it was 1992, we wouldn't have to put up with you then.

and we wouldn't have the Internet, but that's another story.

I think Steve Clarke needs a mention here. People often tend to forget this is a two-man partnership. Kenny has done fantastically well and with the help of Steve it seems to running perfectly.

    The futures bright :)

January 2011 when Kenny was appointed

    http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/premier-league/2010-2011/table/2011-01-05

    compared to now

    http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/premier-league/2010-2011/table/2011-04-24

Goal diff changed from -3 to +12, 8 league places gained.

Points gained on teams like Spurs and City is impressive . More or less kept pace with United ,Chelsea and Arsenal (and Everton).

The points per game is proper top 4 performance under Kenny with no flukey wins I can think of.

My biggest thing ( I assume this came after our 5-0 win) was it has been a long time since we have really smashed a team. During the Citeh game I was thinking to myself, why don't we go for more? get that goal difference up and send a message. Finally we have done that and Maxi from nowhere! When was the last time he played? Probably played himself into being kept around.

Good stuff on the weekend, and I think the new Laugh at is directed at Arsenal. But does anyone want to stop United??

I remember rival praying for a points deduction, administration, H&G to stay..all really pathetic. One lad on 606 Lettuce, was almost besides himself with joy when Hicks got the court injunction. And others claimed NESV would bleed us dry, ruin us, etc.

The reality is NESV are doing a fantastic job. Roy had to go, he was never wanted and his CV pointed at average performance. Kenny's appointment was the catalyst, Steve Clarke as his no.2 was a stroke of genius. And getting £50 million for the injury ridden, sulker Torres was a master stroke.Comolli being bought in was also a good idea.

Liverpool now have stability, direction and togetherness.

I remember reading quite a few posts made by that numpty. Proper obsessed with Liverpool, real bitter BN. Wonder why he hasn't found this site? In fact there don't seem to be many BN's on here at all. Maybe they've all crawled back under the stones they came from in the first place.....

4th place a doddle? Really? Man city will only be better, if chelsea spend in the summer they will be too, United will improve their squad and we are pretty good at finishing in the top 4. Thats ignoring tottenham who will also compete. So all in all whilst I am not going to rule you out that type of optimism is misguided at best.

In response to the thread and KPR

Seeing as we had the makings of a pie, it was a matter of time till someone knew how to make that pie:) Roy couldn't with the ingredients he had, he can make other pies but this one was tricky for him as he never made this kind before.

Kenny is a wizard in the kitchen and he has cooked up a nice football pie, a big one, for us to have a slice of.

I know Brum were awful, but we never went into top gear and got 5 and should have had more, we have failed on games like that without belief, the difference confidence makes, the difference when you expect to win!

There's no such thing as misguided optimism. If we all thought the way you do then we should just accept never winning anything just like Arsenal fans have. It's hard being a football supporter when your team doesn't win anything for a while, but there's no harm in being optimistic. What would be the point? People don't go to football matches to see their team lose, they go because they want them to win. Might be optimistic for some people, but if optimism wasn't there, neither would football be.

Bearing that in mind KPR has every right to be optimistic EVERY season, just like every other Liverpool fan.
