While I agree for the most part I'm not sure I'd say there was no chance with the free kick - I have an inkling Davis was slightly out of position.
I think we need to protect the back four more so should maybe use 2 holding midfielders in like a 4-2-1-2-1.
I like the 4-2-3-1, I think this would be ideal for Ramirez in the hole. If we have Lallana and Mayuka on the wings, then all three can rotate and cut inwards and outwards, confusing the opposition's defence. Have Lambert up top and you have a frightening attack!
Steven Davis was shocking today, shame. He gave away two goals. I think we will play 4-2-3-1 with Gaston in the number 10 role. I think that once we click, we will put 4 or 5 past someone, against some mid table teams.I am sure of it.
We are going to get spanked again this season, we will however beat alot of teams. Saw the West ham Norwich game today and that was shyte. Gomarhingin bangs on about how much QPR have spent and how many players they bought in yet they are only 2 points above us. Our season starts now
We've not done any worse against the top teams than we did last time out when we finished 8th so its not all bad and we shouldn't panic and certianly not look to change manager (a point I mumbled through on Talksport earlier! ha ha!). A lot of other teams will come out with a far worse goal difference than us after playing City, Utd and Arsenal, its just that they have all come at once. If we look at this season as a mini league of say ten teams who could all go down its where we finish in that that matters. So far we have only played one game in this mini league and have 3 games in hand over some of our rivals yet are only a drift by a couple of points. That doesn't seem so bad.
Read my post properly. I have not got a short memory. I am fully behind Cortese and not the lunatic combinations that in turn were scared to spend and then spent unwisely. We had Le Tissier, we had a few decent players around him however we were an established premier league side and had been for years. We could attract a reasonable level of player. We are now the new boys and hard as it may seem have to be careful to get quality in without wasting our money on people only here for the payday fully expecting to go somewhere else for another payday next year. As for us 'happy clappers' I remember those days of being belted. Today reminded me of a grim day against Everton a couple of decade ago when they weren't in the best form yet managed to get 7 past us. We haven't been promised the earth though. We have been promised stability, ambition and that will not be achieved by sacking Adkins or replacing a whole squad on big money. It will take time.
Just a thought but next weekend when we beat Villa and Liverpool lose to Man U and QPR lose away to Spurs we will be third from bottom, who would have thought Liverpool 2 points from 5 games.
Let's hope the Arsenal game was a one off in it's severity. If it was, the good points so far are we have scored in PL, several teams are close to us at the bottom and one win would make all the difference, and we have put three of the toughest games behind us. The bad points are that we are defensively weak (which we all knew) which has given us a poor GD early in season and that the late arrival of new players means that NA is still experimenting. The challenge for Nigel is rousing the team after a tonking and revisiting his formation based on results. Apart from the GD, we are not far from where we'd all thought we'd be once the fixtures came out. Realistically we could only expect 0-3 points after 4 games. The need to hang onto a lead is massive...Man City have been held to a draw...that should have been us. The next few games will be massive for player and fans confidence.
The next match will go along way to seeing if we have been cruelly served by the fixture list and thWigan perormance was a blip or if we are genuinely going to be this season's whipping boys. Parts of the Man Utd game were encouraging and we need to repeat that against Villa. However, I still think we are going to find this season extremely difficult with wins almost impossible to come by. The swash-buckling style of play of the last few seasons does not work at this leve
I disagree to a point. I remember watching us years ago when we went out determined to play attacking football and either got thumped or in turn thumped a team ourselves.
The problem is that you can't win in the PL to order. Just because the fixture list gave us an awful start doesn't have any effect on subsequent games. Aston Villa will be as difficult or as easy as they would have been in the first game. There is no pity in the PL. If anything, a note of desperation could creep in bcause we haven't got a point or two.
