Two great wins for Academy teams away from home todayand two hat trick boys Crystal Palace 3 Fulham 4 U18s The team had to grind out a win against a very good Palace to make it two wins out of two. The scorers were, wait for it .....Moussa Dembele with 3 and the other by Cauley Woodrow Crystal Palace 3 Fulham 6 U16s Brilliant win by the youngsters and great goal keeping by Magnus Norman including saving a penalty. The scorers were Wes McDonald with 3 Pat Roberts with 2 and the other by Corey Morgan
Here is the official report - again brief but it does include the team line up - http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2012/september/01/u18s-4-palace-3
Cottager,we voiced our views on FFC young goalkeepers, and i see todays team sheet another one turns up
He's the one on loan from Spurs rosc. The U18s are going geat guns though aren't they? Hopefully the U21s can get their first points on the board tomorrow.
By co-incidence the Club have posted a profile of the Academy goalkeeper coach, rosc. His name is Vic Bettinelli but the article doesn't say if he's a relation (father?) of Marcus Bettinelli who you'll know has just gone out on loan. http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2012/september/02/fulham-memory-lane The other two Academy keepers named are Jesse Jorenen and Max Obershmidt. Jorenen plays for the U21s (interesting to see if he plays today) and the regular U18, Oberschmidt, is injured. Our other keeper is U16s Magnus Norman and I guess they thought he wasn't quite ready for the step up, so that's why they brought in the Spurs loanee, Grainger.
Having mentioned the U21s in the last post I was reminded of a post during the transfer hooha last Friday about James Musa, a centre back. http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/sport/football/7591925/ I don't know if he slipped under the radar because he'd be an Academy player or if nothing came of it - sounded to me as though he was being brought in so that Dan Burn could join the main squad. Again interesting to see if he features in today's U21 game
Good call about Musa, I wonder if he signed? Found a few articles saying he's signed for five months. Here's one. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=10831037
Answer to your question Cottager Marcus is the son of our goalkeeping coach Vic Bettinelli. Who I believe is on loan at the moment.
I went to Motspur Park to watch our under 21s v Crystal Palace, this afternoon. Those like myself were hoping to see what players would be stepping up to the plate ready for 1st team appearances this season. "Well they were awful",to sum up the 2 full backs were found to be flat footed and slow. Trotta, ambled around constantly appealing, their c/half had him bottled up from the start. Minkowitz beaten to the ball, or easily taken from him, Burn, Donnigan avarage performance but still nothing to get excited about. Very disappointed with both lack of ability and enthusiasm. Result FULHAM 1 CRYSTAL PALACE 4
My son and I went as well rosc, and like you were more than a tad disappointed. Palace were stronger, faster and first to the ball throuhout the game. Thought there number 6 (O'keefe) was outstanding. Only Alex Smith came out with any credit on our side. Jol was there and what he saw wouldn't have helped end a miserable week for Fulham. Including Trotta in the side I presume was a calculated move but as you say he was awful; no pace, no ball control (I won't comment on his missed penalty). In other words lacking in all the areas where Jol said a week ago that he needed to improve. Having given him a new 3 year deal recently the Club obviously see someting in him but after yesterday, my guess is Jol will have him straight out on loan. Here's the brief match report from the Club - http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2012/september/02/u21s-1-crystal-palace-4 Going back to goalkeepers rosc. Thanks for the note about Bettinelli and his father. What surprised me yesterday was that he was sub - even though he's on loan to Dartford and played for them in a 5-1 win at the weekend. Don't get it ?? Also as you obviously know Symogyi played - that's fine since he needs games but then with Bettinelli subbing, where is Jesse Jorenen? Not a big deal in the scheme of things I suppose - put him down as the Senderos of the Academy.
Here are video highlights, including of course "ONE DEMBELE"'s hat trick - http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2012/september/04/palace-u18-highlights
Fulham 1 Crystal Palace 4 (U21s) Here are video highlights - http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2012/september/04/palace-u21-highlights In a perverse way the new Academy structure and introducing the U21 league is proving useful. These guys are in theory, on the fringe of the main squad and it's games like this against quality opposition that indicates whether they will make the higher grade. I'm sure they and Kit will be learning from the lessons handed out in their first two league games.
COttager, somehow I think we were all expecting to much, but I must say there was nothing about this lot to enthuse
Fulham 3 Birmingham City 2 (U16s) Another good win for the youngsters this afternoon. England U16 player Patrick Roberts got all 3 of our goals.
While the U21s are finding life difficult in the new Academy League, the U18s are continuing last year's excellent performances. They get a good write up in this article on the Barclay's PL official site - http://www2.premierleague.com/en-gb/news/news/barclays-u18-premier-league-round-up-100912.html Their next match, this Saturday, away to Middlesburgh will be a tough one though.
A double blow for the U18 team ahead of the match away to Middlesborough tomorrow with both goalscorers Dembele and Hyndman being ruled out. Young Patrick Roberts, who has been outstanding for the U16s, is likely to step up. Here is a pre-match review from the Club - http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2012/september/14/u18s-face-middlesbrough
Middlesborough 1 Fulham 5 (U18s) What a fantastic win away from home to make it 3 out of 3 for the U18s. And another hat trick lad, this time Cauley Woodrow. The Club report is as usual brief and unfortunately doesn't give the team line up - http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2012/september/15/u18s-vicory Good also to see at the Cottage this afternoon, the U18s who have now stepped up parade the Cup they won last year - led round by Captain Minky.
Middlesborough 5 Fulham 0 (U16s) The result says it all. On their own admission the younsters didn't play as a team and only midfielder Josh Smile came out with any credit. Ah well, it was an away match !
Agree cottager, this looked a difficult match on paper, but the youngsters rose to the occasion. Cauley Woodrow,a hat trick today. A player we bought from Luton Town for an undisclosed fee, when at the time several bigger clubs were vying for his signature, but he chose us ?. "It seemed a very friendly club where all were involved" so at the moment it top of the pile. goals for 24 ~ against 9. It would be nice for Fulham to give a team listing, even if its just to let us know who was todays goalkeeper and where we acquired him from
Yeah, still don't follow what's going on with keepers rosc. Magnus Norman turned out for the U16s so my guess is the Spurs guy Grainger would be in the U18 goal. The team sheet would be good as well to know who's stepped up to the U21s and equally from the U16s - I know young Pat Roberts did today and apparently played really well, got 2 assists.
