That's not my point... My point is that we don't know what is in store.

There are fan extremists for them all, they're not exclusive to Hamilton... We just get subjected to it more with being on British based sites. :)

<laugh> I still dont think he'll do it. I mean i just can't see why he would think its a good idea.

Of course, but we can know what is likely. Mercedes suddenly jumping to the top isn't.

I just don't know what to think now, really, but the suspense is killing me.

Yeah, i never said it couldn't happen. I just said it's unlikely and with Merc having been pretty in the other 5 of the last 6 seasons it would be a big leap of faith. Miracles happen, but betting everything on one coming off...

Know how you feel. The shake ups this would cause across the grid would just be fascinating to watch unfold.

If Mercedes produce a good car which they look sort of like doing at the moment then Hamilton's move there can be a success for him as well as his management. Time will tell on that one.

Personally I reckon XIX will announce this ASAP and possibly during a race weekend to stop Hamilton being badgered about it.

McLaren have had only one WDC since 1999, and that was Hamilton... Why is everybody so convinced they they can do it again in the next decade and Mercedes can't?

That could make things pretty frosty in terms of this years title campaign though. I mean say Button leads Hamilton 1-2 in either the USA or Brazil would McLaren ask the man likely to be their best hope in 2013 to move over for someone whose just dumped them?

Its about General competitiveness as much as championships.

    Wins since 2000

McLaren 57 (Hamilton,Button,Kovalainen,Alonso, Raikkonen, Montoya, Coulthard, Hakkinen)
    BAR/Honda/Brawn/Mercedes 10 (Rosberg,Barrichello, Button)

That's an interesting point but also:

    1. The way would be clear for Button to unequivocally lead the team from 2013.

    2. Depends on your definition of 'dumped' ;)

    3. Wouldn't McLaren likely end up with more money for 2013 if Button did mover over?

And what happens when McLaren become a customer team? So many resources available to them and so little to show for it.

I'm not saying that they won't take another title or more wins... But it's not like they have made the most of what they have had. People talk like Hamilton would walk away from a certain championship chance, but that may not be the case. When you look at it... McLaren have been under-achievers in the last decade.

Sgt your not the only one who feels he could be lured to Mercedes. Ernies comment to Eddie regarding Michael signified to me Michael might be leaving at the end of this year although i hope not <wink> As we know Mercedes are a big player funds wise and as someone pointed out he's good mates with Nico. I can see Mercedes getting stronger, and Brawn's no fool. Kind of hoped or rather im hoping Michael does stick around for the Turbo era. Who knows . That's pretty important to me personally from a fans point of view. But if he did move on i'd love to see Lewis join Mercedes. I get exactly what you mean mate in regards to Michael joining Ferrari. Not sure Lewis has that kind of input to help develop a car in say the way Michael or Fernando Alonso (yet) but you never know. To be honest I'm kinda thinking just f%#k it and take the leap and have a go. Could see it as a good challenge for him ahead. Take him out his comfort zone and test his character and give him a new challenge so to speak. Risky i know but sometimes you gotta take a risk and Mercedes isn't a bad option in my eyes. That's my personal opinion. Must feel a bit stagnant at times being in the same outfit so long. Christ its starting to build up more than i expected in that i never really gave it much attention and was more or less passive about it. You and the rest changed that eh <laugh>.
Hope Max is right and an announcement is imminent. Can't be good for Lewis trying to concentrate with this lot going on..

TBH Stevi... Part of me wants him to stay with McLaren... but the other part thinks that a change might be good, even if it takes a while to get back to winning ways. Either option has it's risks right now and there are currently no other doors open so it seems. Sometimes a risk pays off. :)

Sgt were both on the same page bud and for the very same reasons. Preferable option is McLaren for me. But a move to Merc has its own exciting prospects. Guess we're just going to have to wait and see how it goes mate. Certainly tonite's conversation has brought up so many valid points so all in all its certainly something i'm more impatient about as to how it will all unfold. Certainly more than i would have been. The power of the forum eh laugh<laugh> It was a clever question for a thread so well done BLS. Anyway mate was nice catching up. I'm gonna head but I'll catchup on the views tomorrow.
    Have a good 1

    PS Jumped onto ja606.
Something's never change eh. Same old same old. <laugh>

I actually think that a move to Merc would be no worse over the next 3 years. I have always said that if either Lewis or Jenso won the WDC as team mates it would be a hell of achievment due to the lack of No1 status until the very late stages of the season.

For me, I think he would be more likely to win a WDC in a competitive (but not dominant) Merc as a clear No1, than a dominant Mclaren with a team mate who will cost a significant % of points over the season.

I really don't think this is anywhere near as big a deal as some people make out. Most teams allow their drivers to race, Lotus treat both drivers equally, and arguably enforce it more rigidly than anyone else at times. Whilst Vettel is favourite at Red Bull, Webber receives the same treatment as Vettel, their drivers are much more evenly matched this year than McLaren's are, and they were in 2010. Alonso's the only driver who has a compliant number 2, but he rarely benefits from Massa because he's so slow, Vettel, Hamilton, Button etc. all benefit from Ferrari having a poor second driver, he's taken hardly any points out of the top six this season:

    Alonso - 0
    Hamilton - 2 (Silverstone)
Raikkonen - 6 (Monaco, Silverstone and Italy)
    Vettel - 0
    Webber - 2 (Belgium)
    Button - 2 (Silverstone)

Back on topic, I think Hamilton would only benefit financially from a move to Mercedes. McLaren are a far better team. I hope he goes there though, which I'm starting to think he will, just to see some change in the driver market, it will be interesting to see who McLaren replace him with.

Both Webber and Massa have had to yield to their team-mates. Neither Button or Hamilton have been in that situation, so there is a difference there. Even now, McLaren won't impose team orders, where as RBR and Ferrari likely would and that could potentially cost them.
