An old friend of mine, John Brindley, has collaborated with ex-Saint Terry Curran on his autobiography. 'Regrets of a Football Maverick' is out next month and I'm sure it will be worth reading. For all you youngsters out there you will have to ask your dad who he is!! The older generation will know he scored the winning goal for us that took us to Wembley in 1979. The front cover has a nice pic of him with Big Mac on cup final day.

I was thinking that this thread would be about John McCain.

Hi Sussex I remember that semi final really well. Curran was a quirky player and if memory serves never scored a league goal for saints.

He almost didn't score that night! About 28 touches if I remember right. But what a night. Leeds were a huge team and had stuffed us in the league before that 2-2 at Elland Road in the first leg and we all feared the worst. Sadly Chris Nicholl saved that for the Final!

Scoring certainly wasn't a regular habit for us! Seem to remember he banged in a lot of goals the following season but for Sheff Weds!!

Anyone read Lawrie Mac's diary of that same season? That's worth a trip down memory lane, not for it's quality of writing, but for the nostalgia.

I was in the Archers road that night under the A to Z board next to the not happy Leeds fans,
and i seem to remember Currans celebrations had some thing to do with that.
I also went to Leeds on a very cold night when we pinched a 2-2 draw, i think Steel got sent off ?
and they weren't to happy that night either.
In fact there was something quite nice in seeing a unhappy Leeds fan in those days, probably our 7-0
football lesson had something to do with that.

Sad Leeds fans in our opening game last season were a pleasure to behold as well.

I've only read Pele's and Taking Le Tiss. Maybe I should give this one a read.
