This happened to me once, scored from outside the area and it went into the bottom corner, only the nets hadn't been checked and it went straight through a big gap in the side netting....they got a goal kick! Was furious. Anyway, the game is gone and refs decision is final - they need to shut up and get on with it.
Very harsh and the assistant referee should have spotted a hole in the net. I've a feeling the result will stand though.
The result will, unfortunately, have to stand. If the FA decide to make them replay the game then they set a precedent that will affect the game from the bottom right to the very top. Think about it, every time a relay shows the ball to have crossed the line but the goal wasn't given, the team who 'scored' will point to this game and the match will have to be replayed. Think about what would happen if we had a similar scenario to last season. Man City and Man Utd both need a win to claim the title, QPR need to avoid defeat to stay up. Man City score, but the goal isn't given, Man Utd win the title and QPR scrape a draw and stay up. Man City subsequently appeal and the upon review the FA are forced to replay the game. Man City win the replayed game meaning Man Utd are stripped of the title and QPR are relegated. Man Utd would then appeal claiming Man City had an unfair advantage as they knew what result they needed, QPR would appeal as they did enough to stay up first time round and it wasn't their fault the officials made the wrong call in the first game. It would be chaos...hypothetically
I agree with Dazz, it's too dangerous a precedent to set. Very disappointed that none of the winning teams players owned up, when 7 of them thought it was a goal. I'd guess the sporting thing for the winning team to split the £10,000 profits between both clubs.
The referee's decision is final. It reminds me of an incident in 1972 when we played Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Dave Webb "scored" for them even though his shot clearly went wide of the post! We subsequently lost the game by a single goal.
Believe it or not, I was at that game. David Best was the keeper I remember. It happened so quick that ref thought it had hit the stancheon and come out. Nets were changed after that game.

whist i don't think the game should be replayed as i agree the precedent is to dangerous to set, they should be compensated financially by the fa, maybe 1.5 times gospost's eventual winnings in the competition.
Although there is precedent of the FA allowing a replay of an FA Cup match where the "winning" team's manager offered a replay to the "losing" team, rather than win in controversial circumstances... Well remembered welly, though I think the over-riding factor then was the fact that the replay was offered by the winning team on the grounds that the winning goal had resulted from a position of a lack of sportsmanship, rather than a mistake by the referee! In Arsenal's case, no laws of the game were broken, only the "gentleman's agreement" of returning the ball after an incidence of putting the ball out of play to get attention for an injured player!
It's not going to happen is it. How many perfectly good goals have been scored and not seen by the officials? Enough to suggest that poor little Bashley are going to get nowhere with their appeal. Yes it is another form of cheating and it is very sad to see it happen even at this level but what can you do? You cannot change morals in a competitive sport as far as I can see.
