How many of those reports were altered by the police or done by a friendly coroner? Of course they are going to try and fiddle everything so the police done get charged. Whatever figures the gov quotes, the real figures will be worse.
They have to be investigated - that's how they can be proved to have been acting within the law. If the police didn't investigate the deaths of anyone (even a thief killed whilst in someone's house) then you my as well announce free rein to any murderers you like, because they will claim self defence and not even get arrested.
If you want to go down that route, flyer, you'll never be convinced that the truth is otherwise. Not everything has a conspiracy behind it. Elvis actually did die of burger overdose, you know...
This is from the ipcc site I guess having just googled it so to put it in actual context this isn't just police it also includes the following- The statistical analysis covers deaths in: Prisons Young Offender Institutes (YOIs) Police custody Immigration Removal Centres Approved Premises Secure Childrenâs Homes Secure Training Centres So quite wide ranging, again as I say, full context needed.
I have friends who are in the force and they do a good job and they take it hard if a person dies in custody and the investigations that follow by IPCC are intense. I feel with the improvement in accountability that there is very few cover ups cannot say none as there are always some bad apples in the crate like in every workplace/society. Like today it may take weeks, months, years or decades but the truth does come out.
I only copied the summary of findings of deaths in custody which is what was being discussed no matter what type of custody suite it is. I am not damming the police was just giving the figures.

I am starting a new career and undertaking 3 years of study to work in the NHS. The death rates there are a lot more and approx 1 in 20 deaths is preventable. It is down to staffing levels in any job and the cuts to the emergency services will only make the situation worse before it will get better. I sometimes hate looking at, reading or watching the news as it is only negative there is very little positiveness showing the good that has been done. I know of a few cases locally that have made me sick to the pit of my stomach and the police handled them excellently yet it has not been reported anywhere. The media has a lot to do with the negativity and this needs to change.
Of course they have to be investigated but going to the CPS to try and get a conviction in a case like that is clearly wrong. Theres a huge difference between investigating and being charged.
Whats that got to do with anything. I could easily just say I bet you think the priests didnt fiddle the kiddies and the church didnt cover it up. I will never be convinced otherwise because of my experiences, just as i will never be convinced that politicians arent all self serving lairs.
I saw enough coppers try to restore order last year Swords when every scumbag prick came out on the streets to try and destroy our communities. Despite what some would have you believe, looting 'Foot Locker' or 'Game' wasn't a political statement, but just pure greed. And who stopped it getting even worse ? Yep, the OB. I'm definately not the biggest fan of the police but to paint them all as bullying tossers is quite frankly utter bollox.
