Would they though? Who ever lost their life by standing outside a football ground? They were safer out than in, that was the **** up.
Standing is safe, standing in cages with no escape is not safe, nothing to do with police lies. Had there been no cages not a single person would have died.
Apart from the poor souls who got crushed to death when the inadequate barriers collapsed with thousands of people falling on top of them. There would have been no crush had the police not ****ed up in opening the gate channelling all remaining fans into one area of the stand that was already full
I dont think I would have felt safe and wanted to be in a crowd of however many fans outside who were all hyped up to see a football match and then refused entry. The **** up was the sale of too many tickets. That is down to the F.A.
It's impossible to say, but there was potential for an incident to occur and it forced the police into a (wrong) response. They weren't just standing outside a ground though, there were thousands of people rushing to a game that had already started through two turnstiles. It's not like they were waiting patiently in a line to get in. In hindsight yes they were, but at the time the police did not understand the implications of opening that gate, they knew the stand wasn't at capcity but they weren't aware the were only filling one pen.
We'll never know what was going through the polices heads that day, they probably panicked and didn't know what to do and at the time to them maybe opening the gate made sense? they may not have expected so many fans to literally run into the ground? we won't ever know
Agreed but that's nothing to do with standing, thats a poorly maintained ground. If a roof collapsed and killed people at the KC it wouldn't be because seating is unsafe it would because the ground maintainence failed. Completely agree, but that's not the reason standing is no longer allowed (original point of the post).
WITH HINDSIGHT......We will never know what might have happened had the fans been refused entry. All I think is that could have caused a riot and a disaster outside instead.
That's my point, it's quite easy to condem the police for their actions, in hindsight anything could have happened in a vareity of different scenarios, it just so happens what unfolded was tragic. The main problem as OLM has pointed out is the disgusting cover up afterwards to deflect the blame from themselves.
When we had a thread on this subject a few months ago i was given a right load of old bollox from some posters when I gave my views. The report says nothing that most of us did not know already, but glad its official. This is what i said last time. ""THE POLICE WERE TO BLAME FOR ALL 96 DEATHS AND THE COPS IN CHARGE SHOULD NOT ONLY HAVE DONE TIME BUT HAD THERE FULL PENSIONS AND BENEFITS STOPPED AND AWARDED TO THE FAMILIES. IT WAS MASS MURDER OF THE HIGHEST ORDER"" The Liverpool fans were no drunk than the average fan. The middle entrance under the Leppings Lane Road stand should have been closed with all access from either side only. But with the mass of fans outside The game should never have started and if both Liverpool and Forest had been told the situation at 2.55pm then they would have not come out. The Police in charge that day should now pay the price and a heavy one. 96 fans who should still be alive today.
Its not just about who is to blame. Its about all the cover up. The families just want the truth about how there love ones died.
It's not murder at all and you could be liable by even saying that. At worst it's manslaughter through negligence.
Can't imagine what it must of been like for the fans watching the scenes unravel infront of them So sad young children got stuck in the middle of this too, a disaster which could have been averted but caused by so many factors. Shocking how it was covered with lies for so many years
If you had been there on the day you would NOT be posting ^^^^ this. My best man was and he still has not got fully over from what he saw to this day. The Police officers in charge are as guilty as Peter Sutcliffe is. FACT.
And if you hadn't been effected personally by this you wouldn't be accusing the police of murder (unless of course you don't know the definition).
Shut up, ffs. Mistakes were made and the tragedy that followed was terrible(the cover that followed was far worse), but it certainly wasn't murder.
