That was an incredible statement from Cameron. South Yorkshire OB really couldn't have come out of that looking any worse, for those that didn't hear it, the police tried to change the timeline of the events to cover up their failings, they removed any police criticism from people statements, they basically just tried to blame the fans for their own mistakes. They even did blood test on every dead body, including the children, in the hope of proving excess alcohol was the cause. Shocking.
Will those in charge now be taken to task over their totally criminal incompetence? Step forward the Cheif Constable of South Yorkshire at the time !
I always assumed it was down to some ****faced run-of-the-mill scousers turning up ticketless and deciding to barge their way in, until I saw a documentary about it the other night. The officials (police) were most definitely at fault, but their actions are absolutely bewildering and the tradgedy could so easily have been avoided. Makes me wonder if they actually wanted something of the sort to happen (conspiracy alert) to try and prove something to make life easier for themselves in the future? Or something along the lines anyway... The actions taken by the police in charge are so mind numbingly stupid, it's hard to think they didn't want it to happen on purpose, either that or they were taking orders from a monkey.
I still don't understand, this is all to do with the aftermath, surely what caused the tragedy is whats important and I can't see any mention of that.
Danny Baker ‏@prodnose By the way, Kelvin Mackenzie - you disgusting little ****er. Can't argue with that.
Yet Baker is employed by the same organisation that continues to give Mackenzie airtime almost every week.
How come it's only Hillsborough that's brought up? Why doesn't the Bradford Disaster, the Leeds stabbings in Turkey or Heysel get as much coverage nationally as this event does? I'm glad LFC allow the families, friends and loved ones of the deceased to attend Anfield for a memorial service to those who died, but they should do it without the presence of a tv camera.
Exactly, the fans created the problem and that problem was poorly dealt with by the police. It's like accidently starting a chip pan fire in your house and blaming the fire brigade that your house burnt down.
They don't want justice, they want someone to blame, they may end up getting both, but unless 'justice' involves all Liverpool fans completely cleared and someone in prision they will carry on.
I see your point but the police had a duty to all those supporters to keep them safe and well, a duty which they failed in epic proportions, their incompetence and poor decisions are ultimately what led to the disaster, and had they handled things better it could never have happened. To put into your perspective it's like the fire brigade turning up and deciding to just stand there and spit on the fire until it got out of control and your house burned down. So really, that point holds no credence.
It appears to have been a catalogue of errors. The tickets issued for the stand exceeded the safe amount. That stand was already full. The turnstiles were old and were slow in letting the fans in. The police then opened a gate to let them in quickly, and the gate led them to the entranceway to the already overcrowded stand resulting in the crush. That's how I understand it anyway
And there in lies the debate, whilst I completely accept your point I think until we get to see the report we don't know which end of those two analogies is true.
