...but, as we now have an African (Cameroon) international - are we going to lose him to the African Nations? If they haven't yet qualified, I hope they don't as Bassong has looked more like the one at Newcastle than Spurs/Wolves. What are the dates and what games are we likely to miss him for?
Was looking into this the other day. They are struggling to qualify having lost the first-leg of the latest round of qualifiers. Bassong wasn't in the squad anyway, so unlikely for two reasons that we'll lose him.
Cameroon play 2nd leg of final qualifier against Cape Verde on 12 Oct at home. They are 2-0 down,so may not qualify. Bassong was not in current squad that played 8 Sept. Competition runs from 19 Jan to 10 Feb
Man in the know, thanks. Who do they have at cb in the Cameroon squad that keeps him out, not that I mind of course.
Bassongs last game was a friendly against Equatorial Guinea, 11 October 2011. I don't think he is anywhere near 1st choice, so "Don't Panic"
Surely he must have had a fall out with the management or something as I'm pretty sure he'd be good enough to at least get in their squad if they are getting beaten by Cape Verde Islands. That Andre Bikey bloke plays for them, he's a Championship player at best who has just signed for Boro I believe and Bassong is much better than him if you ask me. Incidentally I can't believe there is another African Nations again this year, it's ridiculous that they should have it two years in a row, particularly as it's smack bang in the middle of pretty much all the domestic leagues where the African players ply their trade - what's wrong with every four years like we do in Europe?
It's normally every 2 years, but they've decided to change from having it in even years to odd years, so rather than making the change by having 3 years between tournaments, they've decided to have only one year.
